I have been a fitness-junkie for most of my life - partially because I try to stay in shape, but also because I like what it does for me emotionally and mentally.  With all the benefits I feel, I find it amazing that other people aren't totally into fitness too.  But I guess we all have our own interests to follow, so that's cool.  But I can not believe how many times I have been actively DIScouraged from engaging in the activities I enjoy so much, whether it is from well-meaning family members, friends who "apologize" for being out of shape, or strangers who think I am in their way or wasting my time.  I don't understand it, because I know how important it is to have some kind of encouragement to do anything that is tough.  And sticking with a fitness program is TOUGH, especially as life gets busy and we get older and less agile.  It is SO TOUGH, and I am so proud of anyone who finds the heart to fit in whatever amount of fitness they can.

I have visited my TBB site nearly everyday since I took on p90x almost 3 years ago -- and this site has literally saved my sense of self.  It has confirmed my commitment to myself, to being and staying healthy as I age, and to sharing my passion for fitness with others.  It is a family of like-minded people that I feel I can connect to without even knowing who they are.  The SuperGym tells me I am not alone, no matter what time it is, and I feel stronger and happier as a result.  So I guess I just want to share my gratitude with all of you Team Beachbody peeps -- and especially to those of you who are just scoping it out.  YOU really get me off my butt and ready to go, and that ALWAYS makes me feel better!  And I know that the more you stay connected, the better you will feel too!

Peace out!!

Stepping it Up!

Wow, I am SOO excited to be deepening my involvement with Team BeachBody by becoming a COACH today!  I have tossed the idea around for a few months.  Seeing how much MY coach, Melanie, loves this company and how inspiring she has been to me has motivated me to share the passion with other people, too.  I kept finding myself talking with my co-workers (teachers) and parents of my students about staying active and healthy, so I thought this is the next logical step.  I am SO impressed with everything I have encountered  so far, and I love feeling this excited about a new venture.  Gosh knows, I have had other things in my life try to take me down, but I feel so empowered and positive through BeachBody.

So, here's to my new adventure in wellness.. and hoping that it will intersect with YOUR adventure too!

Eat, Workout, Rest, Repeat.

Have you ever needed or wanted to "start over again"?  I have started over again so very many times, and I have always done so with a shameful hanging of the head, as in, well, I guess I failed again. Starting over with this attitude implies a belief that there is a "finish" line somewhere down the road. That when I reach it I will be done with this process. But I recently realized the error of this line of thought.

A life of movement and health involves a daily commitment and follow thru.  While the habits of working out and watching what we eat can lead to a number on a scale or tape measure or distance, unless we are willing to give up the results, we can not give up the process.

So, yes, running and Bringing It with Tony and Jamming with Chalene and stretching in my yoga class and cutting out junk food might lead to weight loss or fat loss or strength gain or flexibility. But if I view those things as the "Finish Line" I will be very disappointed in a months time if I then depart from my healthy habits.

In order to keep my weight and strength and flexibility and speed I also need to keep my training and diet focused.  Now the reality is, my body, energy, time, interests, etc. fluctuate from day to day or season to season.  So sometimes I am craving a gentle yoga stretch or a meditative long run or a sweaty kickboxing session.  Sometimes my body needs more iron or potassium or carbs and will crave foods accordingly. Sometimes my job or home or family has needs that supersede my schedule, and to feel balanced I need to tend to those for a while. I think it is important to listen  and respond to all of these aspects of my life.

By doing so, I  acknowledge the wholeness of myself as a person, and the on-going need for movement, nourishment, and rest.  My commitment to health extends beyond a program or a goal weight. It extends to my late nights and early mornings, my friends and family, my mind and soul, not 90 days, but 90+years from now. That is my finish line.  And in order to reach it, my commitment starts in a different way each day, but it starts over nonetheless.  When it doesn't I will have reached my Finish Line.

And I would like that Finish Line to be far, far away right now!
