People still working towards their goal often think that they can’t be a coach until they lose another 20 pounds, are ripped or have 6 pack abs. This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions of people looking at the coaching opportunity. If this is you, READ ON!!
I started coaching just 45 days into Round 1 of P90X. My friends started seeing a difference in my figure after a few weeks of doing P90X. My status updates were about working out and P90X and people were asking me about my progress. I started hearing about the coaching opportunity and thought it sounded like something I would really enjoy doing. I was already talking about the program and eating better and inspiring people to be healthier – I never felt like I was “selling” anything – everything was honest, MY experience, why I loved it, how it helped ME, etc., and without having any pressure of HAVING to sell anything OR buy anything it completely took the pressure off of me.
Sometimes I actually feel like I am not the best coach I can be because I can’t relate to those who have a harder journey than I have. I have never had to lose more than about 5 or 10 pounds. I don’t have an unhealthy relationship with food. I don’t have kids so I have no post pregnancy weight to lose. Working out and eating healthy comes pretty naturally for me – I enjoy it.
So what am I getting at? People who can relate to a wide majority of people make AWESOME coaches! If you struggle with your weight, manage kids, spouse, job, hate cooking and love sweets BUT you press play, you make small changes to your nutrition plan, and you commit to your program and are seeing changes then coaching could ABSOLUTELY be for you!
Do you know how inspired I am by contestants on The Biggest Loser? I see them working out, learning about healthy habits, losing weight, dealing with emotional issues from loss to abuse, struggling some weeks (how many times have we seen a contestant only lose 1 or 2 pounds a week after practically killing themselves all week long?!). I honestly watch the show while working out and I push harder. If they can complete a marathon, so can I. If they can push harder, so can I. If they can change their habits, so can I. Someone already ripped, who can do one handed push ups, do 30 pull ups, eats a Vegan diet and has no kids is also GREAT inspiration – they push me as well – but do I believe that I can achieve what they have? Some days yes, some days no. Am I making sense?
A Beachbody Coach needs to be working at their goals. It helps hold both the company and the Coach accountable. Coaching is an incredible accountability tool!
Many people sign up as Coaches just to get the discount on products like Shakeology, Results and Recovery Drink, and of course all the programs. And that is FINE too! Some people don’t even announce that they are a Coach to the rest of their friends and family. Again, this is fine also! (I don’t recommend it, but the great thing is that a Coach can make this business whatever they want!) So let’s say you start using Shakeology and want to start getting it for $89.95 instead of $119.95 and start drinking it at work for lunch or a healthy snack and your workmate asks about it, you give her a sample, she loves it and buys it from your website, well you just made a sale and a commission by SHARING your Shakeology with your friend, not by selling it. If this happens 3 times you basically just paid for your bag of Shakeology. It just makes sense, doesn’t it?
So to sum up
~ “Regular” people make awesome Coaches because people can relate to them. Coaches need to be a product of the product – if you are still working at your goal that is just fine - it makes you REAL and people will be able to RELATE to you. This business is about building Relationships! Not about making sales :)
~ Coaches don’t need to sell or grow their business if they don’t want to – “coaching” just for the discount is completely OK! (Some coaches started out just for the discount and later decided to grow and EXPLODE their business!) Make it what YOU want it to be.
~ Coaching is an awesome accountability tool! It keeps me moving and eating right because I know people look up to me and follow my lead.
Hope that helped to clear up any misconceptions on who can and should be coaches! If you have ANY questions about coaching or are considering it please let me know!
