If you are one of those nocturnal creatures like me, you’ll probably understand my story. I didn’t really give it much thought until a little while ago. If you work a graveyard shift and train on a regular basis while maintaining healthy eating habits, you have a difficult job. It is hard enough to exercise daily and eat healthy even working a normal day shift. Now add a few more things in the mix. Working, while a majority of our population is sleeping and sleeping while most of the world is awake is not a normal thing sometimes. Your body’s clock is kind of out of whack in the beginning if you are new to the graveyard scene. It does take a while to get used to, but even then, your body can still be a bit messed up especially when your weekend comes around and you have to transition to a normal day schedule and sleep pattern. That sometimes requires you to change the times you will exercise. That in itself takes a lot of work.
If you are an athlete and train like an athlete, and work a graveyard shift, I want to commend you! It takes a very disciplined person, with tremendous dedication to stick to a regimen like this.Focus and willingness to succeed with your fitness on this shift definitely brings out your “A” game. These lat night hours do not always allow a person to go to a restaurant that is usually open during day hours. Now, there might be some fast food places open at this time to get a quick unhealthy meal if you want to give in to convenience. The real discipline is planning your meals, either week by week or just day to day and not falling prey to late night junk food. Finding a regular routine on a schedule that’s not considered to be normal is a difficult task. I have been asked several times by others how I stay on such schedule like and still able to function and perform at a high level of fitness while maintaining a strict diet. The key to my success is having a clear, mental approach, and understanding that in order to succeed , I must have the discipline to do so. There are several sacrifices I must adhere to in order to accomplish this. The most important aspect of all of this is being able to get an adequate amount of some sleep the days you are working. One of the decisions I had to make was whether or not I was going to train after work or before. I decided to train after work because I feel I have more energy. Just know that if you are struggling to maintain a normal routine, it is possible. It does take some time in order to get situated, but if you have a goal, this crazy shift will not slow you down and still allow you to train hard and make significant progress in your daily fitness.
So if you are a “GRAVEYARD ATHLETE”, keep plugging along and I promise it will get easier. It’s a little more work but well worth it. Find a plan that works for you and stick to it. Stay strong my friends and embrace graveyard as your new day shift. Rich
Hey everyone, just got started with P90X2 about 5 days ago and so far it has a test for me. I'm 43 years old and will be 44 in less than a month. I have had the opportunity to complete 4 rounds of P90X but these past 5 days have already told me that P90X2 is definitely something different. There are already many moves that I am performing that are pushing me to a higher level of fitness and my body is already responding in true fashion. This is is just the tip of the Iceberg for what will be in store for me. As I sit here, there are parts of my body that are extremely sore that haven't been sore in quite a while. This to me is a good thing. One of the great things that are is new in regards to P90X2 is some of the new tools that are being used in each workout. One is the stability ball and the other one is the foam roller or rumble roller. I see that one of the nuances of this program is progression. This is a philosophy of Fitness that I firmly believe in. Without progression, you risk the chance of injuring yourself because most people want to get fit, FAST! I't not a race. This is a lifelong journey. I will continue to post updates and my progress for the rest of P90X2 quest! Bottom line, my recommendation on P90X2 is do it. I highly recommend it., Rich
We are entering 2012 in just a few weeks, WOW! Can't believe this year is almost over! We come together now with alot of the same ideals, the same goals, and for ALL, the same DREAMS!
In 2012, I want those dreams to come true for ALL of you. We have had all year to think , to work, to play, and strive towards are passion. This is the moment that it all comes together. All of us have been busting our tails all year long and alot of us, all of our lives. We deserve it and we definitely earned it! I can't tell what to do or even how to do it, but what I can do, is say that whatever you have in store for the next year, do it with " todo corazon!" "ALL HEART"! Not with your head, because from your heart, that's where the passion lies! For most of my life I was doing things without using my heart, and now I am! I feel it has moved me much closer to my goals and aspirations!
So take a moment and think and most definitely, PRAY about what you want out of 2012. I am setting the bar HIGH for myself. So whatever that height is for you, set it higher than you did this year.
I now love the way I see things, I love the passion I have towards my goals, and I especially love myself. I know alot of us don't take the time to do so. It doesn't cost any money, and it doesn't take alot of time, "ALL IT TAKES IS YOU!"
I believe we all all have dreams, and the desire to succeed, no matter what it is. This is what I have for ALL OF YOU IN 2012. MY friendship, my love, my prayers, and the hopes that you will take some time for "YOU" in order to fulfill your GOALS AND DREAMS! I am anxiously looking forward to hearing from everyone to and hopefully be a part of your goals for 2012 and being there cheering you on! This next year is going to be THE BEST!
Good morning everyone. I hope your training is going well so far. I have come to the conclusion that your training does not have to be flashy, or over the top. There are many people out there doing hybrids, super hybrids, and even sometimes working out more than twice a day. Working out at a faster pace and more times during the day won't give you faster results.
I look at it like this, If you are doing a particular program, for instance P90X, and you happen to miss a day, will you or should you double up the next day? Some people do. Now, lets say you are taking prescription medication and you happen to miss a dose, are you going to double up the next time? Some people do. My point is, you might be doing more damage to your body by doubling up, whether it be your training or your medication, it might be more than your body can handle at one time. More at one time is not always good for you. By putting your body through so much trauma, you may become susceptible to injury and invite the possibility of being sidelined for a period of time. This can lead to frustration and the need for results becomes immediate has prompted some to desperate measures.
Stick to the basics my friends. I have been very blessed with my training thus far in my life and have made some tremendous results. In the early portion of my training, I learned real fast that my ego had many opportunities of getting in my way of my progress. I quickly sent him away because that was a definite distraction. I have learned to listen to my body and understand its needs, necessities, and how it works. To get optimum results from your workouts, I feel that is a key element to your overall progress. I continually keep my mind open to different training practices that will give me the best results . I stick to training programs that practice fundamentals. This is why I think certain programs are better in its purest form. If I do too much at one time, it may be hard to determine what is actually working for you.
Nothing is going to replace hard work, consistency, motivation, and great nutrition. In my opinion, these 4 elements are the keys to you fitness success. Finding out how your body responds to certain training is done with trial and error. Some mistakes have to be made in order for you to succeed. If you have been stuck doing the same workout for a long period of time with no results, it's time for something new. Make sure you do your research before you try a new program. If you have friends that have been training for some time and their results are evident, ask them. You will get best and most honest answers necessary. Don't be sold by alot of programs that are being marketed on Television. Just because they are T.V., doesn't mean they are the best. Pay attention to your body, do what's best for it and most important, STICK TO THE BASICS!
There is a serious condition that is running rampant through our great country of ours. Millions of us suffer from this condition and for a long period of time in my life , I suffered from the same thing. This disease, which is curable, has denied many of us from excelling to a level of physical fitness which could help us live a long and healthy life. This is not a genetic condition, and I don't believe we were born with this. This is something that just happens to a large majority of us as we mature and grow older. The one thing that is good about MX is that it can be controlled , if you are willing to take charge and do something about it.
For me personally, I didn't take any medication, or seek the the advice from a physician. Now, their are other medical conditions and diseases that may limit a person's physical ability to do exercise, and in many cases , are beyond our control. In that respect , we do the best we can and give our own 100%!
Now, I'm not a doctor, but I know I have the remedy to cure the spread of MX! I started with myself and have made a commitment to help anyone who wants help with this. I vowed not to ever let this condition plague me for as long as I live. As long I continue to combat this, I KNOW, I WILL live a long healthy life. The epidemic, condition, disease, or whatever you want to name it, is call MANY EXCUSE! It was something that I thought was going to rule my life, but NO MORE! Don't let it rule yours!
