P90X Week 14: *MY TRANSFORMATION STORY*


At 35 years of age, I knew I could be in better shape; MUCH BETTER SHAPE. I've been an athlete since age 4, playing multiple individual and organized team sports year round through high school, and was even blessed to play some football in college. I've held a gym membership and used it 4-6 times a week "religiously" since 1995, yet still understood something was missing.

Then along came the P90X infomercial. I saw couch potatoes, public servants, brides-to-be, and even a mom of SIX with higher levels of fitness in just 90 Days and thought, "If THEY can do it, I should be able to!". I jumped online and read everything I could about P90X and Tony Horton. One thing truly resonated with me; Tony says, "Never say 'can't'- instead, say, 'I presently struggle with ___". Needless to say, I took his advice and got started!

On Day 1, I was 250+lbs. and 26% body fat - at 5'8"!!! My chest was 52" and my waist was 40" - TOTALLY RIDICULOUS for someone as athletic and active as I had been. From the first workout on March 2, 2009 I was in love with the P90X program! I could not believe that A) I could not keep up with this 50 year-old stud B) that he was whipping my tail- IN MY OWN LIVING ROOM without machines, and C) that I'd let myself get to this unhealthy stage. I knew right then, there was no going back to the guy I saw in the mirror just an hour before.

I HIGHLY recommend morning workouts for two reasons: 1) it jump-starts your metabolism for the day, and 2) it is the ONLY time of the day that is non-negotiable. THINK ABOUT IT: if exercise is the first thing you do in the morning, nothing else can get in the way of your workout!

IMMEDIATELY following my sessions, I would peel myself off the floor, wash my hands, prepare a SHAKEOLOGY drink and replenish my body on the spot. I ate every 3 hours, and 90 days later, I'm 210lbs. (38lbs. lighter!) and 16% body fat! My chest is now 44" and my waist is 34"!

On a scale of 1-10, my belief system is a 4,000 in P90X and Shakeology!!! Although I receive literally dozens of compliments from friends near and far daily on my outward change, what they cannot see is my inner confidence, strength, and vastly improved quality of life!

Beachbody's comprehensive approach to exercise, nutrition, supplementation, and SUPPORT are critical in enabling ordinary individuals to attain EXTRAORDINARY results! For me, Tony Horton's approach to the science of "muscle confusion" in P90X is life-changing. I can hear him now: "Variety is the spice of exercise" - So true, so true....

But, my success story doesn't stop at Day 90 of P90X, it's truly about being the conduit for change and a healthier lifestyle for others. When I began my workouts, I'd decided to create a weekly e-journal of my workouts and post them in this Facebook Group for encouragement from friends & family. By the time Day 91 arrived, the WE Beachbody! group has blossomed to OVER 1,000 MEMBERS FROM ALL OVER THE GLOBE! I've been able to empower HUNDREDS of individuals that I never would have met through sharing my story in this Group! Moreover, many of the group members are now Team Beachbody Members logging their workouts in WOWY, avid P90X - Power 90 - ChaLEAN Extreme - Hip Hop Abs -10 Min Trainer - INSANITY users, and even dozens are now Beachbody Coaches like me!

P90X and Shakeology enabled me to tap into an internal power source that has renewed my spirit. I am living an incredible life of physical and financial fitness, and in turn, empowering the masses to follow suit.

MON 6/01 - You know, for someone that should have been MORE than ready to sit still for a week and let his body rest... I COULDN'T!?! I spent the first half of the day working with other Beachbody Coaches; by 4pm, I wound up pulling out my Perfect Pushup bars and resistance bands! Mind you, I didn't PUSH PLAY on a particular workout, but I felt like I just HAD to do something for 30-40 min... Kinda scary, hunh?? What was once uncomfortable to do, is now uncomfortable NOT to!

- Figured there's probably A REASON why they tell you to take a week off, so I better start listening... YEAH, RIGHT: just did Ab Ripper X!

WED 6/03 - Spin class at the gym + 2 hours of weights... Even at the gym, I find myself incorporating P90X movements with the machines and free weights! (YYYYep, I'm addicted!)

THU 6/04 - X STRETCH

FRI 6/05 - Radio Show taping, post-show meeting, home, and CRASHED!

SAT 6/06 - KENPO X

P90X Week 13: *GRADUATION*

Well whaddya know, it's Sunday, May 31st - "Just like THAT"!?!?!

Looking back over the past 3 months, I'm almost scared of where I'd be TODAY had I not completed the P90X system: I was almost 250lbs, had a 52" chest, 40" waist, and was over 23% body fat...

Today, I am 210lbs, have a 44" chest, 34" waist, and am 16% body fat!!!

As I've shared in weeks past, I am all about the S.Y.S.T.E.M.:

S-aving
Y-our
S-elf
T-ime
E-nergy and
M-oney

Did I hit ALL of my original goals? No... Am I super-lean and ripped like the guys in the infomercials? Nope- not that, either... Did I achieve more than I ever imagined thru P90X? YOU BETCHA! I would not trade this 90-day PERSONAL GROWTH EXPERIENCE for anything!!!!

Long-term, I would still like to hit and maintain my goal of returning to my college weight; I'm confident I'll be there by the time Homecoming '09 arrives... but if I don't, SO WHAT - WHO CARES - I'm STILL in THE BEST SHAPE and OVERALL FITNESS LEVEL OF-MY-LIFE!

More important: I will NEVER AGAIN judge my personal self-worth by a stupid SCALE!!! Lowering my risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, while prolonging my life is ALL THE REWARD I NEED, Thank You. :-)))

Several group members have asked me this week what am I going to do once I've completed the 90 days next week... GREAT QUESTION! Although I'm not 100% certain what my summer workout regiment will consist of after taking the recommended 1-2 weeks off, I am POSITIVE that I will get back to my sorely-missed spin classes at the gym AND complete another P90X cycle by year's end- most likely in the fall!

* WEEK 12 (P90X Days 78-84) -- PHASE III *

MON 5/18 - CHEST, SHOULDERS & TRICEPS + AB RIPPER X:
I've been "pumping iron" in weight rooms and fitness facilities for over 20 years now... After all of the pushups and presses experienced in this P90X workout, I'll never look at a bench press the same again!!!

Just as in Week 19, I used my Perfect Push-up bars to really add to the "pump" - those SIDE TRI-RISES are murder!?!?!?!

Chocolate Shakeology in a shaker with soy milk and ice makes it all worthwhile... AHHHHH!!!

TUE 5/19 - CARDIO X: I have a renewed appreciation for "muscle confusion" based on Cardio X and Core Synergistics alone!

WED 5/20 - BACK & BICEPS + AB RIPPER X: Wanna talk about an "intense" workout?? I believe the name of the company that produces P90X - Beachbody - came from this workout alone! If you everrrrrrr want a workout for those "glamour muscles" (male OR female), this is it!!!

THU 5/21 - KENPO X: I decided to double up on Kenpo sessions vs. Cardio X this week, and love every second of it! To add to the intensity, I continue throwing the combo punches throughout the timed segment with no rest... Whew!

FRI 5/22 - CORE SYNERGISTICS: Core, Core, Core... WOW.

SAT 5/23 - KENPO X: Ya know, I'm seriously thinking about getting into Kenpo Karate a bit more; I really enjoy these sessions!

SUN 5/24 - REST: And much-needed! My heels could use the day off from all those kicks thrown this week! Happy Memorial Day Weekend, folks!!!

* WEEK 11 (P90X Days 71-77) -- PHASE III *

MON 5/11 - CHEST & BACK + AB RIPPER X:
I would be telling a bold-face lie if I said that I wasn't going to miss this workout... (Pause - Sigh) - Well! Now that's out of the way (LOL), the idea of doing roughly 150-200 push-ups and over 100 pull-ups would run most adults off, but give yourself time to develop and you'll be AMAZED at your accomplishments - take it from me!!!

TUE 5/12 - CARDIO X: Can u believe... I get all the way through 71 days of P90X... and Day 72 is the day... that I actually decide to stop paying attention and hit the bar stool during swing kicks?? OUCH!!!! Had to press pause for a good 2 minutes to recover from that one... LOL - okay, back to it! I am in AWE at the fact that I can now do Dreya Rolls for a full minute!

WED 5/13 - SHOULDERS & ARMS + AB RIPPER X: What a bicep/tricep buster - this one is definitely a tank top workout!!! If you've never done the Deep Swimmer's Press or Crouching Cohen Curls, you haven't had a bicep workout in life!?!?

THU 5/14 - CARDIO X: Didn't have to worry about hitting the stool this time; my eyes stayed GLUED on the task at hand the whole way through!

FRI 5/15 - CORE SYNERGISTICS:
Once this system's done, I'll most certainly continue to do Core, Kenpo and Cardio X - along with my sorely missed spin classes at the gym... That is, until I start it all over again in the late fall/winter!

* If you but only did this workout twice a week, your body would thank you 90 days later; IMAGINE what this PLUS the other 11 workouts would do! *

SAT 5/16 - KENPO X: Hey, my back kicks have improved- and my balance is better! I sure hope no one ever puts me to the test; I might be a little dangerous now... LOL (seriously.)

SUN 5/17 - REST DAY:
Next week should be interesting; the first two phases of P90X consisted of 3 weeks of intensity - followed by 1 week of recovery, before moving on... Phase III, however, has FOUR weeks of intensity before "putting it in cruise control"... Time to get my mind right for the final haul - a repeat of Week 10 !!!

Many of you are now Beachbody clients as well as Group Members - CONGRATULATIONS! For those of you who are not, but have either maintained or begun a new level of commitment to your personal fitness - CONGRATULATIONS! The hardest part is the start - plan your workouts first thing in your day - it's the ONLY part that's non-negotiable (you're planning on waking up anyway, right??) Tony Horton says it best, "Take care of your body - and your body will take care of you."

One note for those of you active in P90X workouts: Beachbody's line of nutritional supplements are specifically geared towards the recovery, repair, and rebuilding of muscle tissue broken down in these advanced workouts. While we all have access to numerous options locally (and online) for potential solutions to the soreness and fatigue we experience over the course of the 13 weeks, ONLY BEACHBODY has offerings targeted for a P90X participants needs. Trying to "tough it out", or using the same product that "worked" the last __ years after your (cough) workouts at the gym will not suffice; be smart - listen to Tony's advice on the "Watch This First!" DVD and take it from me - the products WORK. :-)))

MON 5/04 - CHEST, SHOULDERS & TRICEPS + AB RIPPER X: This Phase III alternating weekly workout regiment is a BEAST! I've personally seen more physical change over the past two weeks than the first eight!?!?!

Using the Perfect Push-up bars really adds to the "pump" on the chest moves!

Oh-thank-Heaven for Shakeology after these Ab Ripper X sessions!!!

TUE 5/05 - CARDIO X: I'll say it again this week... The best 42-min butt-kicker in America - PERIOD!

WED 5/06 - BACK & BICEPS + AB RIPPER X: This workout right here... THIS WORKOUT RIGHT HEEEERE... Man o' Man - from the "Corn on the cob" Chin Ups to the Congdon curls, this DVD is the most serious workout I've had in the entire system!

THU 5/07 - KENPO X: I decided to double up on Kenpo sessions vs. Cardio X this week, and love every second of it!

FRI 5/08 - CORE SYNERGISTICS: Even if I ever stop doing the complete P90X System, I will ALWAYS do this one; it's a must-do!

SAT 5/09 - KENPO X: Suddenly, Kenpo's not my favorite workout.... Just kidding, but believe-you-me when I say, "My kicks were anything BUT crisp!"

The best part is my 4 year-old nephew, Braylon, joined me for the vertical punches at the end! When we finished, he looks up at me and says, "Can we do that again?" Pouring in sweat, Uncle Marcus says "SURE" - and commenced to rewind the segment... You all know he asked me YET AGAIN, right?? Twice was enough - come visit me in Atlanta for more, little buddy.

SUN 5/03 - MOM'S DAY:
Every one do me a HUGE favor - pick up the telephone today and call a MOM - any MOM - that isn't expecting a call from you. A former coworker, classmate from school, an old neighbor, ANY MOM! :-)))
