Sticking Point

Ok, I've been consistently losing weight for 3 months straight and lost about 26 lbs total over that time. The last 2 weeks I've been stuck where I am or a pound or 2 higher and just keep rotating thru those numbers. I know you can plateau but what do I need to do to break thru it? I still have at least 25-40 lbs to go to get to where I need to be. I was thinking of doing the 3 day shakeology cleanse but that doesn't give me enough energy to get me thru my TurboFire workouts and I don't really want to stop the workouts for 3 days. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated!  :-)

Hey i know the frustration from not loosing weight when you are trying so hard to do so. do you lift weights. I know you are doing turbofire but i do turbofire and do weight lifting as well. I like chalene extreme. you might want to try p90x. that has worked for thousands of people. i have done that one as well. it does work if you push play. try counting your calories. i write down everything i eat. you may be surprised at the amount of calories you are consuming. I also weigh all my food out on a kitchen scale. sometimes what we think is a surving is really more like two. how long have you been doing turbofire. your body does adjust and adapt to what you are doing. you have to keep confusing it to keep loosing weight and not hit a plateau. i mix up my beachbody workouts. i do insanity some day, i run some day, i do p90x, chalene extreme, and turbofire. i get a well round exercise program. i also do core and ab work. maybe you body needs more then the turbofire to break through the plateau. try doing what i said for about a week and see if that helps. remember muscle burns fat. the more you have the more calories your burn the more food you can eat and still loose.

YES, what she said. Also, Chalene said, (and I hate to be THAT person)people overestimate calorie burn and underestimate calorie consumption. Reality of weight loss, which I know you know, is creating that calorie deficit. But that deficit doesn't have to be created by eating less. I totally get what you are saying about keeping your strength up for Turbo Fire workouts. So how about working some other activities into your day?

Weight lifting is an awesome calorie burn that keeps burning long after you stop working out. Plus it builds lean muscle which burns 4 times as many calories as fat.

If you aren't interested in that, what about another fun activity to flesh out your day - tennis, skiing, a nice walk, a swim. A pick-up game of b-ball with your kids...anything really, that gets you moving a bit. It doesn't have to be something that wears you out, just something that makes you move.

Still, if your day is like my day, and pretty full already, how about trying out a food journal and keeping track for 2 or 3 days what you're eating? I also have a Body Bugg, which tells me what I'm burning calorie-wise. That, combined with my journal, gives me a pretty accurate assessment of the calories going in and going out, so I can make sure I hit my 500 cal deficit each day.

Eating every 2 hours can really help your body stay out of "starvation mode" which also could be the culprit. You don't want your body to stockpile calories because it doesn't know when it will get food again. You want it to burn burn burn, right? So always keep a little food in the "tank." Maybe that will get things moving in the right direction for you?

Eh, all suggestions. Maybe one will flip that switch.

Good luck!

Thank-you for the advice from both of you! It is well appreciated! :-) In the past I have done more weightlifting and less cardio. I always end up pushing myself too much and hurt myself which keeps me from any exercise for awhile. This time I decided to just do TF for the 5 months, hoping to get to where I want to be with my weight and then build up the muscle with weightlifting again after that combined with a cardio workout. I've been doing TF for 5 weeks now. I also walk my German Shepherd for 2-3 miles per day and take long strenuous hikes on the weekends. I keep track of my calories pretty well and was thinking I may be needing more, that my body was going into the starvation mode as you also said Tracy. My energy hasn't been what it was which also makes me think it is the reason.I'm going to add some calories and do as you said, eat every 2 hours, and see if that does it. I'll keep you posted but thanks again!

Good morning! Your blog popped up when I logged in this morning so I thought I'd drop in and say hi! Congrats on your progress so far! GREAT JOB! Well I agree with the girls above too but I think what you were thinking too, since you've lost all that weight, you need to reevaluate how many calories you need to be eating. My guess is that you many need more. Have you tried using the Nutrition Tool - Caloric Needs? You can plug your info in and TurboFire, and it will give you a number! Pretty cool! I know that you said you were thinking of doing the Shakeology cleanse but don't want to do it while in Turbofire, if you aren't using Shakeology yet I would consider it, just drink one shake a day as a snack or meal. It will definitely give your body what it needs to function the way you want it to!

The other thing you may want to consider if you're not doing it already is to make sure you're taking a really good daily multi-vitamin too! With all the demand you're putting on your body, you use up what you put in a lot faster!

Well my friend, I hope that helps a little! Keep on doing what you're doing because you're doing AWESOME!!! Take care!

Yeah, what they all said! What ever you do, stay safe (as Shaun T says), watch your technique to keep injury free. I too hit that plateau, thinking I'd lose tons of fat with INSANITY...but our bodies catch on and adjust if it thinks we're starving. I waited until I finished INSANITY, then did the 3-day Shakeology Cleanse (thanks to my coach Sherri Parkinson for the inspiration). I lost 7 pounds in those 3 days and I can't tell you what a boost that was! I felt so good. But it wasn't easy. I would not recommend doing the cleanse while in the middle of an intense workout program. But it is good! Stay strong..we're with you...you will succeed! Aloha!

Congratulations on your progress!! I love TurboFire! You've had some great suggestions here. I wanted to add... this weekend I had the opportunity to meet Missy Costello, Tony Horton's personal chef at a BB retreat in CA. One of the things she talked about was the benefits of cutting dairy out of our diets. Several people commented on how once they made that change the weight really started to drop off and how much better they felt. Our diary products are not so good for us any more. You may want to consider that. Doing the Shakeology cleanse first then making some dietary changes may be just the ticket...we know the workout you are doing is awesome! And I agree that you may not be getting enough of the "right" calories. Keep up the good work!
