I have always considered myself to be a health conscious gal, but never before had I thought about a lot of the things associated with being healthy until I purchased P90X. I have never been a super skinny girl, but I have never considered myself overweight either. A great deal of my body is solid muscle, but there are spots that are "soft" and as I age I struggle with the weight I carry around my hips and belly, especially after the birth of our fourth child. As I was taking my weight and measurements I realized just how much weight I have put on my body over the years, and I was shocked.
In the past (up until yesterday) I have joked about running ten miles instead of giving up brownies. Today I realize that I do not necessarily have to give up my brownies, but I do have to make a healthier version and eat a proper serving. Before today, my attitude towards fitness was purely one associated with exercise with no thoughts of the other factors involved in living a healthy lifestyle. Don't get me wrong...we eat well in our house; we make things from scratch and eat fruits and veggies, but we also eat a lot of ice cream, homemade cookies, brownies, and other yummy things and portions are not always what they should be.
Today I realized that if I truly wanted to get healthy I would have to change my attitude about everything because getting healthy is not just about how far I can run. It is a combination of many things including, drinking plenty of water, taking the proper vitamins and supplements, getting the right amount of rest, and eating foods that are healthier for me and my family. Only after implementing an overall healthy lifestyle change will I begin to see any significant changes in my body.
I may have been fit before, but now I embrace the opportunity to become healthy.
