Well, well, well, much has happened in the past 2 years. The job I moved to Alaska for turned out to be awesome! However, the boss was horrible. After turning him in to HR, I was layed-off (no surprise there!). I must have cultivated some friends in high places though, because they gave me 6-months notice and a years worth of free schooling as part of my compensation package. That, and I keep drawing my full salary and benefits. Not bad! I'm not worried, I'll find something.
What I AM worried about is my health. I am back at the weight I was at when I started this journey in 2007. I don't look like that, but I am at the same weight. I had two knee injuries and a hysterectomy that precluded exercise for about 6-months. The fat cells seized their opportunity and had a field day! I started exercising again on July 8, 2011.
I had my doctor do a baseline blood test (fasting) and a toxic metals test. Turns out I have high cholesterol and high levels of lead in my system. So exercise and a 48-day metals detox are in place to get myself healthier. The disturbing thing is that the lead has to be ingested or absorbed through the skin. Get rid of all those plates and mugs made in china! Pay attention to your surroundings, and get that Toxic Metals Test! Even though insurance may not pay for it, it's still under $150 and worth every penny to know what's going on in your body.
Alaska is wonderful and I love it here, the aurora is magical in the winter and the long summer days (22 hours) are marevelous. I've had to change my way of life to be here, but it wasn't difficult. I fit in better here than in any other place I've ever lived. The pace is slower and people pretty much accept you for how you are. I still have only one real friend, but a lot of acquaintances and plenty to do.
