Eat what "feels" good

Most people think that I must be very "diciplined" or have loads of "will power".  Well, not really.  I've just managed, over time, to associate what I eat with how I'm going to feel after I eat it.  I go to a networking meeting every Friday and sometime, one of the members will wave a donut in front of my face thinking he's torturing me.  I look at that donut and I feel low blood sugar, a pain in my tooth and a sore on my tongue, which is what that thing will give me if I eat it.  I see a slice of pizza as burning indigestion followed by a day spent in the bathroom.  Seriously, no temptation here!  I'm guessing that the average, out of shape, American doesn't associate these feelings that, I'm sure, they DO get with what they are eating and the feelings are probably a normal part of their everyday life.

Now,  when I look at a plate of vegetables and lean protien or a bowl of fresh fruit, I feel energy, excitement and all my plumbing working great and flowing freely.  I look at that food and I WANT it and it FEELS good.

There is more to YOU than your emotions and your mouth.  Every other part of your body is still part of YOU and it is looking for you to feed it food that will help it function.  When you feed it other "things", it doesn't know what to do with them so it wreaks havoc like a child having a tantrum and you continue to be hungry because the body is still not getting what it needs.

This "mind/body connection" is not something I was born with or a miracle gift or anything.  I began eating properly about 30 years ago.  After eating the right foods for a period of approximately six weeks, I starting functioning better than ever and feeling better than ever and when I did eat the other "things" I really felt the difference and this is when the "mind/body connection began.

Five years ago, I got myself into a business that kept me so busy that I had difficulty staying on track.  I was frequently on the road and had to eat whatever was around.  My body changed a bit and it wasn't good.  I decided that I didn't want to live this way, so I went back to eating the way my body likes and this mind/body connection got even stronger.

I believe that those of us who mangaged to get themselves in shape and stay that way have developed this connection and I believe that many more people can do this.  Keep the mind open with food.  Try new things.  Feed your body what it wants.  It will reward you in so many ways.  Eating right is not a deprivation.  It is an INDULGENCE!

tonight I ate a chocolate gnash cupcake at a jewelery party and I thought it would be satisfying, but as I sit here my belly is telling me otherwise. Not that it didn't taste good, cause it did, but I don't "feel" good at this moment. You are right, when I have a piece of fruit I just feel better, lighter, as though my body was thanking me! Don't know why I go off track, but I always get back on track. : )

Once in a while we go off track because, at that moment, for some reason, we're thinking, Maybe it won't do it to me this time." Well, I had one of those moments last night and ate two slices of pizza. Well, this morning payback is a bitch. What the body doesn't want, the body doesn't want. Period.
