Trust me, finding time to work out has not always been easy. It is challenging juggling work, children, and life in general! I know..I've been there. Done that. Doing that! However busy and crazy my life is as a mother and I am a mother of two very active boys and married to my husband for 17 years. I am a professional photographer and own my own studio so my life is busy with a capital "B!"
Trust me, finding time to work out has not always been easy. It is challenging juggling work, children, and life in general! I know..I've been there. Done that. Doing that! However busy and crazy my life is as a mother and business owner, I have finally found the time to work out...and you can too! What a difference!
Here is my story:
In recent years both of my grandparents have been admitted to nursing homes (one with diabetes and the other with Alzheimer's Disease). I have watched their health and spirit decline. My mother has diabetes, my father has high blood pressure and is a border line diabetic. My paternal grandfather had diabetes and my maternal grandfather has osteoporosis. Wow, my gene pool isn't looking so healthy!
After having two children and trying to manage my new life as a working parent there was just no time for myself. No time for workouts and my energy level slowed and the extra pounds & inches came on. Although grateful and blessed for my beautiful babies, I just didn't feel like myself for a very long time.
After speaking with a well-respected endocrinologist in my area, he said I had basically a 90% chance of contracting diabetes and that between myself and my two siblings, one of us WOULD get diabetes. That was an instant, BIG, red flag to me. I don't want my siblings to develop diabetes but I surely don't want it either! I don't want ANYONE to have it! I have seen the impact this terrible disease has had on many of my family members. The endocrinologist told me that I could actually reduce my chances of developing diabetes through daily exercise (as little as 30 minutes a day) and a healthy diet. Well, this is when I hit the pavement running (literally) and went through my pantry and began to toss the "junk" polluting my body and my family's bodies. I have started to become a queen of reading food labels and many of them are just plain scary. If I can't pronounce the chemical ingredients in some foods, should I really be eating it or feeding it to my family? Exercise is a necessity if I want to have any quality of life where I can be active and feel great. I have decided that it is not something I would like to do, it is something I HAVE to do and SHOULD do to keep my body & mind healthy. I want to play baseball with my sons and run around playing frisbee in the backyard without feeling winded. Plus, exercise is good for the mind! It gives you clarity and focus and the extra energy helps me to be able to keep up with my busy little guys (without feeling like I'm going to pass out)!
So, hence...here I am making the small daily changes to help improve my life and my family's life! I have struggled for years with finding the time to exercise but now I realize I have to MAKE the time as it is essential to the quality of life I desire. Guess what? I'm doing it! Hooray!!!!

Day 30: Feeling more energized! Lost 5 pounds and the jeans are fitting looser. Hooray! I can't believe how much better I am feeling. Friends are commenting on how much weight I have lost but I am More ...
Day 30: Feeling more energized! Lost 5 pounds and the jeans are fitting looser. Hooray! I can't believe how much better I am feeling. Friends are commenting on how much weight I have lost but I am actually re-shaping my body and building muscle. I am so excited about shedding this fat around my belly and getting into a bathing suit this summer without feeling like I need to wear a cover up!
Week 6: Finally was able to put on a pair of shorts that I haven't been able to button for a year!
Week 8: I've lost 2 inches in my waist! Oh happy day! I just received a "preferred" rating on my insurance exam. My insurance agent called me and said my physical came back great. "Whatever you are doing...keep doing it" were his words!
Week 12: Those ab muscles DO EXIST! They've just been hidden for so long I forgot what they looked like! My husband said "hey, you're getting ripped." Now to work on that lower pooch that is so darn stubborn!
Starting over: 2nd round P90X! Won my first 5K! Yay..I out ran people 10 to 15 years younger than me! Thank you Beachbody!!! Lost 4 inches in my stomach too!
