I am 33, went back to school and graduated with my nursing degree in Dec. of '06, and married my then fiance two years ago this fall. Hubby also went back to school and is now a helicopter pilot. It was tough work on both our parts, and, unfortunately, the stress took a toll on my weight.
The upside of all the stress we went through? My husband and I truly respect each other for reaching some of our educational goals (at an "older" than typical college age - my husband is now 40). It may have cost a lot, but its worth it. Oh and, if we both had not gone back to school, we probably would never have met. Working hard to reach your goals pays off in more than one way!

As a healthcare provider, I am supposed to be an example to others of healthy living. How ironic that when I went back to school to become a nurse, my weight skyrocketed! At only 5’2” tall, I gained 20 pounds and reached my all time “high” of 150 pounds. My life was one big round of studying, going to class, working, comforting myself with food from all the stress, and not getting enough sleep. I felt different about myself, other people treated me different, and I experienced the lowest self-esteem I had experienced so far in my adult life. I also, had very little clothing I properly fit into with the added weight, and couldn’t afford new outfits, which certainly didn’t help! Well, I made it through nursing school, passed my boards, and promptly dropped 10 pounds just in relief! Then dropped another 10 pounds for my wedding in 2007. But stress from my 13 hour long shifts on the floor have taken their toll and I am now back up to 147 pounds. I decided that, I have to do something, I just wasn’t sure what. Working 13 hour shifts leave me with my days very imbalanced, so if I was going to work out everyday, the gym, a 20 minute drive away, and an added expense on our already tight budget, just wasn’t cutting it.
My husband watched a P90X ad and wanted me to take a look. I have to admit, after watching, the program really appealed to me. Although in my late teens and early twenties the program would not have intimidated me (I was in pretty “buff” shape back then), but in the shape I am now, I was a little bit skeptical about whether I could do this program. My husband encouraged me and we decided that since we had quit our gym memberships, you should always replace something “good” with something “better”! So we ordered the program, along with the chin up bar and the bands. We found a complete dumb bell set with a stand on craigslist... [more later]
