My first weight problem was probably back as far as junior high where I was tipping the scale 144 pounds. I leaned out in high school due to sports, but then my true downhill slide began. Sport activities in college were not enough to overcome a horrid diet. After graduating college I got an office job, gained some weight, got married, gained more weight, we had kids, I gained even more. As I was putting on weight, feeling worse, I had convinced myself that the reason I felt terrible was that my life was not my own anymore. I was married, had a job, and had kids. I thought responsibility was weighing me down and I was feeling sad and apathetic. It never occurred to me that what might actually be making me feel tired and down was my weight. Lack of exercise and years of terrible diet had made me a prisoner in my own body.

One evening after my daughter's dinner, I got a wake-up call from my eldest daughter. She had just finished a large dinner and had a round belly. I pointed to her belly and asked her if she was full. She said, "Yes, are you full too daddy?" because my belly was sticking out. It hit home because I had not eaten yet.

My daughter making that statement was a hard reality to face but a very eye opening one. I was fat. It hit the right nerve at the right time. Several weeks before that I'd been playing with her on my shoulders. After a short run across my parents yard it took almost 5 minutes rest to catch my breath. That night I thought to myself, 'What in the world have I done to myself?' I realized that this was affecting more than just me, it was affecting my family. That night I made the decision that I would no longer be a fat and out-of-shape daddy.

I actually spotted the P90X infomercial that night and told my wife about it. She ended up getting me the P90 program for my birthday. I spent a week cleaning out my pantry, freezer and refrigerator where I threw out all quick fix food, fatty condiments and meats, and white breads. I replaced it all with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains. I knew that diet was a huge part of my problem so I really wanted to jump in with both feet. The great thing was that my wife was excited to see my motivation and even volunteered to make the diet change with me.

I officially began Power 90 on April 21, 2007, after completing a 2-day fast. When I started the program the workouts were challenging. Over the next month I had some sore days and some tired days. I even had days that I wanted to skip a workout, but each time I looked at my daughters I remembered why I had made the decision and forged ahead. At the 30 day mark, I had lost 21 pounds and was stepping up to phase 3-4 of the program. I was hooked! I had found something that worked and was committed to see how far I could go in 90 days. I completed Power90 on July 21, 2007 with an official loss of 44 pounds, 21.75 inches, and over 10% body fat. I was completing the phase 3-4 workouts easily and had exceptional strength gains in addition to my weight loss. I went from wearing size 34 jeans that were cutting me in half to size 31 jeans.

In the interest of new challenges I have recently started the P90X program. I've lost another 8 pounds in the first 30 days of P90X and I'm down to 13% body fat. Fitness has now become an immensely important part of my life again. Thank you Million Dollar Body and Tony Horton for P90 and P90X. The tools you have created took a guy who thought his life was over and rekindled a spark for life that I have not had for years. I now have the energy and enthusiasm that I was lacking which has allowed me to be a better father and husband. Even better than my own results, it seems I have inspired my own family and friends to check out various programs. I really feel that health is contagious and look forward to helping any friends and family who want to make those changes to write their own success stories with their results. So again, thank you Tony and Million Dollar Body for what you've created!
