I grew up playing sports. From 5 years old to 18 years old you could find me on a softball field, soccer field, or a running track. I also grew up with a family that loves and appreciates the outdoors; so I've always enjoyed hikes, biking, and camping.
College years from 2001 to 2006 took a toll on my body's fitness level. I continued to play softball for my school, but the program was not as I grew up playing sports. College years from 2001 to 2006 took a toll on my body's fitness level. I continued to play softball for my school, but the program was not as "hard core" as my high school program was. We had less cardio/strength training...so I was wasting 2+ hours a day with a softball practice that didn't give me a workout. Wasting that time, a college social life, and the work load of classes left me with zero time and effort to give to working out.
August 2005 is when I hit my limit. I was unhappy with how my body felt, performed, and looked. My highest weight that year was 157. One day I found myself fed up and ready to make a change. I joined a gym (right next door to my house - what a boost of motivation that was! I had NO excuses for not making it there everyday) and got on board with a friend of mine who had started a running/lifting routine. By February 2006 I remember being happier with how I felt and looked in my clothes. By May graduation I was feeling amazing. I had lost 20 pounds, and would fluctuate between 137-140 lbs.
5/2006 I was lifting weights 6 days a week(targeting diffent muscles in different ways) and doing at least 30 minutes of cardio (mostly on a treadmill, some outdoor running) daily. When I graduated I moved back home. We lived right on a canal path in upstate NY, so I had fresh air and endless miles of trail running (along with a gym membership for weights and treadmill). I kept a good workout regime for 2 years, not anything close to p90x, but I was happy. I also began to really watch my food intake, making better choices and watching calories in 2007. By late 2006 early 2007 I was feeling pretty content with my progress.
I could run 3 miles in 27 minutes for an easy cardio work out. In 2008 from January-July I was in the best shape I've ever been, 130 lbs and strong. I was busy working as a bartender/waitress, going to Graduate classes, working out, and playing in rec volleyball leagues. As my Graduate program came to its final semester, I noticed I was loosing some muscle and gaining some fat, I had less motivation for keeping up with my workouts and good eating habits.
In January 2009 I moved from my Rochester NY home, to Dallas Texas. I live with my boyfriend (who also lives an active life style), we cook at home mostly, but as relationships go we started eating dinners/lunches out more frequently than I ever have in my adult life. Not fastfood but chain restraunts, pizza, subshops etc... In April I joined a slow-pitch softball league - my athletic ability on the field is not what is used to be, and I know it is because of my fitness level and lack of workouts.
I moved down to Dallas without a job, but with a job prospect. It took about 4 weeks before my job started. In those 4 weeks I was often home alone during the day with not much to do (my boyfriend's job is 6 days a week during the day). By this point my workout routine had vanished, I wasn't doing anything. I've always had a "healthy diet" perspective, and I'm not the person to munch on candy, junk food, or sugary snacks. But I wasn't really watching what I was eating anymore. My portion control was gone.
We joined a gym in March. I started running/lifting, but my motivation was shot because I was dissapointed with how I had "let myself go" (I could tell and feel that my body had changed, I lost alot of the progress I had made in my fitness level and it showed on the softball field). The stress of moving, new life routines, and new everything sent me into hibernation as far as workouts go. I picked up a workout routine from April to June, and lost 5 lbs and definatley saw and felt resluts I was happy with, I felt motivated to keep it going and knew I wanted to step it up a notch or 2, or 10!
June 4th I flew back home and spent 18 days there. I went on a few runs, but nothing that kept me in my routine. I returned to Dallas June 21st. Since then I have probably gone to the gym 4 times. I was struggling to get back into the swing of things.
Then I started to pay attention to all the P90X buzz that was going around, and heard alot of good things. I decided it was for me. I've read through the nutrition guide and fitness guides. I know I am capable of completing this program successfully; I want the resluts too badly not to. So here I am, July 7, 2009: ready to start the process. I still need to buy the equipment and do the fit test, but I can't wait to start. I hope to start by July 20th
