My name is Eric Shirley and I live in Belmont, NH with my wife, daughter and son. After graduating from college, where I played football, I went into the Army and served 5 years. After that I went into the law enforcement profession. Throughout that time I was able to maintain a fairly decent weight and stayed in fairly good shape. After my wife and I had our first child things went rapidly downhill. Between taking care of the kids and my work schedule I started to put on weight. It seemed to be about 5-10 pounds a year that I could never get off. I gained weight steadily over time until I reached the 255 pounds that I carry around now. I really decided that I had to do something when a couple of things happened. First, my Dad had a series of mini strokes. Although he has recovered quite nicely, he had a very close call. During this time I learned that he has suffered from high blood pressure for quite sometime and this contributed to his medical problem. I also learned that high blood pressure runs in my family. That was a REAL wake up call for me. With my family history and the job that I have I need to reduce what risk factors I can and one of those is weight. The other thing that happened was I busted out of a pair of my work trousers in several places. That is an embarrassment and I NEED to reduce my waist size. I will not get bigger trousers as a solution.
