I’ve been a carpenter for 30 years, which helps to keep me in relatively good shape. I also do enjoy the Colorado Life style, some skiing, hiking, camping, mountain bike riding. I’m 58 years old and live in Colorado. I’ve been a carpenter for 30 years, which helps to keep me in relatively good shape. I also do enjoy the Colorado Life style, some skiing, hiking, camping, mountain bike riding. Eleven years ago while living in the Denver area, I lived close to a gym so; I got a membership and worked out regularly. Then, about ten years ago, I moved to a smaller town “up in the hills” too far from my gym, weight training ceased. But, a few years later I bought a mountain bike and started riding the mountain trails, this helped to keep a certain tone. Eventually, my job as a carpenter, lead to a more supervisory position with longer hours and less time on the bike, and too, age seemed to slow me down. My work partner had promised himself that when he has his own business, he’ll stop eating sandwiches out of a lunch box and eat lunch in restaurants. Of course I couldn’t let him eat alone, my belly started to grow as fast as his. Even an occasional weekend mountain bike ride couldn’t slow the belly fat building process. Every once in a while I’d get inspired to train a little harder, but it appeared the older I got the easier it was to not work out. Then a year ago while on a camping trip on a Saturday mountain bike ride with some friends, perhaps because I was out of shape, I took a nasty fall, resulting in a cracked rib, two bulging discs in the thoracic area, two fractures in my neck, a totally blown out disc in my neck, and several torn and damaged ligaments in the neck. Stated simply, I broke my neck. What happened was this; I hit an obstacle on the trail which sent me up several feet and backwards, (a half back flip) landing all my body weight and the bicycle on the back of my head. I remember, the moment I collided with the ground and the “snap” sound. I knew I was F**, aaa, in serious trouble. FEAR! I was so scared. Of course the first thing I did was check my vision, I could see, I wasn’t dead. So far, so good. Now to check if my fingers and toes could wiggle, they could. The next worry was knowing that I had ridden a little ahead of my friends, and that they might hit the same obstacle fly up several feet, as I had done, and land on top of me. The fall hadn’t killed me, but my friends might finish what the fall couldn’t do. I needed to get myself off the trail. I dragged myself off the trail and lay in the woods. After about an hour and a half of lying in the woods my friends helped me to my feet and I managed to get back to camp. In retrospect I should have been airlifted to a hospital. Upon seeing the X-rays the doctor said I was lucky to be alive let alone able to walk. Fortunately, I did not damage the nervous system, but a bad step or any slight jolt and I’d be writing a different story. The surgeon was able to install a cadaver bone to replace of the blown disc, which will fuse the damaged area together turning two vertebras into one, and he installed two titanium rods over the damaged area to stabilize the neck. There was nothing he could do for the ligaments. Six weeks after the operation, I was sitting with my shirt off on an examination table at the rehabilitation center which had a full length mirror 3 feet from my nose. I was shocked to see the huge muffin top flopped over my belt and knew I needed to get myself back together. I had been given a second chance. With a new appreciation for life and knowing how quickly you can lose it, why spend the time thinking, “Oh well I’m just getting older I can let myself go.” NO! Life is worth living, and Life is worth living Healthy, fit and strong. I’m only 55, I can have another 50 years of a great life on this planet by being fit! Then the insurance company refused to pay for my rehab. That’s when my girlfriend and now personal Beachbody coach Lisa Delia, suggested BEACHBODY video’s and supplements. I started working out about 4 months ago with some Hip Hop Abs, and Turbo Jam. Then she suggested P-90 and soon after P-90 X. In the beginning we didn’t think to take a before picture, but we did before I started the “X”, which is the before picture shown here from 3 months ago. I guess I was more concerned with getting on my feet again than how my body might change. But holy cow, my body did change! Not only am I in better shape than I have been in years, but I’m getting looks from the ladies. At a recent outdoor, local music festival (The Conifer Mountain Music Festival) the ladies at the concession stand were bragging about serving me, and even asked to touch my abs. (Of course it was hot and sunny and I’m now proud to take off my shirt.) At the same festival, a lady I have never met asked to take my picture, just before she click another stranger lady jumped in and threw her arms around me just to be photographed with me. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE!! It’s not like I’m some young 20 year old hottie… THANK YOU BEACHBODY! THANK YOU LISA! My Progress My fitness goal: Get Healthy Transformation story

Before I became involved with Beachbody and before this transformation: I’ve been a carpenter for 30 years which keeps me in fairly good shape. I also live in Colorado and enjoy the activities here such as skiing, hiking and mountain biking. However, my job description has changed from heavy labor to more supervisory and increased work hours. It seems as I got older the desire to train or to find the time to work out decreased. With less and less time spent skiing, hiking and bike riding. I noticed my belly getting bigger and bigger, jean size increasing and energy decreasing. I told myself, “Well, that’s Ok after all I was over 50 years old I should be slowing down.” Last September 2007 at age 54, I took a rather nasty fall off my mountain bike which nearly killed me. The accident resulted in a cracked rib, two bulging discs in my back, two fractures in my C-6 vertebra, a totally blown out disc between C-5 and C-6 in the neck, and torn ligaments in the neck and shoulders. Simply put I broke my neck. After hearing the”snap” my thoughts went immediately to Christopher Reeve and a life time in a wheel chair. I opened my eyes, well I was alive, I wiggled my fingers and toes, and I could feel them. So far so good. But I remembering being so scared I was crying uncontrollably. After about 90 minutes on the ground and with the help of my friends I got out of the woods. After seeing the x-rays the surgeon said I was very lucky to be alive let alone being able to walk, he operated ASAP. With a cadaver bone to replace the blown out disc and Titanium rods to stabilize my neck vertebra, I was released from the hospital. Seven weeks later while sitting on an examination table at the rehabilitation center with my shirt off and a mirror 3 feet from my nose I was shocked to see the huge muffin top flopped over my belt! It was that moment that I decided to make serious changes! I wasn’t 54 years old, I was 54 years young. I had been given a second chance, I realized how precious life is and how quickly it can be taken away. I had a new appreciation for life and a desire to be fit and enjoy every minute of it. After my neck surgery, the insurance company decided not to cover my rehabilitation cost. My girlfriend, Lisa Delia (and now personal coach) suggested working out with the Beachbody videos. About 4 months ago I started alternating between, Hip Hop Abs, Turbo Jam and P-90. When I got a little stronger Lisa, suggested P-90 X. Now, 1 year after my accident I’ve completed my first 90 day round of P-90X. Lisa told me what I needed to do to get my body strength back, to get rid of the muffin top, belly and love handles, to be able to ride a bike again, to be able to ski again, was the “X”, she was right! The number one obstacle was time. Coming home late from a hard day in construction all I want to do is drink a beer, turn on the TV, eat a comfort food dinner, relax and go to bed. The last thing I wanted to do or had time for was go to the gym and work out for several hours. The second obstacle was diet. When I was younger and more active I was able to get away with a high carbohydrate diet. The P90X diet helped in this area. The Beachbody videos allow me to work out at home in about 45 minutes that helped with the time obstacle. The number one thing that kept me going and staying on track was having a training partner and personal coach. On the days I didn’t want to w/o Lisa would push me and vice versa. She also, made sure my diet included cleaner foods, more protein and vegetables and a lot less bread. Lisa is a terrific coach. Another great motivation was; once I started seeing some results, Lisa told me that there was a contest. So the mental image I have of me sitting on that examination table with fat hanging over my belt and the possibility of entering and winning a contest if I can keep up the work outs was definitely the Carrot and the Stick. Wow! I never expected to see these kinds of results just by working out in the living room, eating properly, and taking the Beachbody vitamins and supplements. I’ve lost 12 pounds, lost the muffin top, and went from 16% to 6% body fat. Even though I have only ridden my mountain bike 5 or 6 times this summer, last week I attempted to ride a trail that is very steep, normally I would have to get off and rest several times before completing the climb on this trail, but this time I rode it clean, no stopping and never using the 1st gear. That is HUGE! So, not only are there visual results, but my overall fitness is better than it has been in years, In only four months using the Beachbody products. Now the cool thing is, I went for a ride with one of my friends. They could not keep up with me, which has inspired them to get into better shape. After all, if I can come back from a broken neck to blowing them away on hill climbs, then there must be something to this Beachbody thing.
