I was introduced to Beachbody thru an “infomercial” that caught my attention. A guy by the name of Tony Horton was pitching an exercise program that was designed to bring you to a new level of fitness thru an exercise regimen based on muscle confusion. I could relate, not only to him, but to the people that had completed his program.
As a long time fitness buff, I had developed a comfortable workout program and plateau. I was in okay shape, very active and didn’t see any great need in rocking the boat. Over the years I had tried a change here, a tweak there, a new series of exercises at the gym, but nothing really motivated me to want to get off my butt and challenge myself . . . then came P90X. Not only did it get me motivated to get over my comfort level and plateau, it got me running up a mountain.
When I received the program I showed it to my son Chris and offered him a challenge. Do it for one week . . . if the first 7 days are lame . . . you’re off the hook. If not, you have to agree to complete the full 90 days.
We started April 30, 2007 and the first week was far from lame, it kicked our butts so hard that we both had a major attitude change. Looking like you’re in shape is a lot different than really being in shape. The combination of routines brought both of us to a new level of functional fitness and it showed, not only in our bodies, but in our sports performance. The 90 days were hard, but worth every minute.
When I went back to the gym after completing the program, I was amazed by the reaction from fellow gym members. They were amazed at my change. I told them about the program and how it takes you up a few notches in your workout and breaks the plateau. I wrote down p90x.com so many times that I was tempted to have it printed on a card.
I’m currently working out at home and at the gym. I’m changing it up, but it’s hard to get the same level of intensity at the gym that is achieve with P90X, so the next challenge is P90X Plus . . . look out!
