Chester, VA I'm 42, married, have three children, two dogs, three cats and a demanding job. I also have had a lot of excuses for being overweight and out of shape. Tired of my own excuses, on the morning of January 1st, 2010 I spent thirty minutes on an elliptical machine and continued doing cardio on a regular basis for the next four months and lost 20+ pounds by April 2010. But something was I'm 42, married, have three children, two dogs, three cats and a demanding job. I also have had a lot of excuses for being overweight and out of shape. Tired of my own excuses, on the morning of January 1st, 2010 I spent thirty minutes on an elliptical machine and continued doing cardio on a regular basis for the next four months and lost 20+ pounds by April 2010. But something was missing, and boredom, my worst enemy, began to invade my thoughts. After seeing the P90X infomercial several times, I found myself more and more interested in this program that was described as challenging, intense, and extreme. In other words, P90X looked like the antidote to boredom. The P90X DVD's showed up on my doorstep on May 14th, 2010, and I started Round One of P90X Classic on May 17th. Round One was a blast, and P90X proved to be "As Advertised"--challenging, intense and extreme. My results from Round One were excellent (25 pounds of weight loss, five inches lost from my belly), but I'm ready for more. Round Two of P90X Classic ended on November 17th, and I lost another six pounds and 1.5 inches on my waist. After a one month diversion of Plus workouts, I started a third round of P90X Classic on January 3, 2011 and just wrapped up Round 3. I actually gained 5 pounds in round 3 but lost 1/2 inch on my waist (more muscle, less fat). Round 4 started on April 11th, and things have been great.

This is not so much a "Transformation Story" as it is an "In Transformation Story". I have been overweight/obese for most of my adult life. My wife and I were married in 1993, and at the time I was a overweight at 212 pounds. My weight held steady between 210 and 220 pounds for the next three years, but then it started to creep up. By 2001, I tipped the scales at over 250 pounds. In January 2002, I made a commitment to get in shape and dropped 60 pounds, and I kept it off---for about 16 months. The workouts gradually ended, and bad eating habits returned. The weight came back with a vengence. By 2006, I was hovering between 250 and 260 pounds. In 2009, a slightly improved diet resulted in some weight loss down to 245 pounds. Starting on January 1, 2010, I began regular cardio workouts (elliptical machine, treadmill, some outdoor running), which helped me drop 20 pounds. After becoming bored with the cardio, I started P90X on May 17th, weighing in at 221 pounds on day 1. By the end of Round One, my weight dropped to 196 pounds and my belly shrank by five inches. I feel great, but I have a lot more work to do. Round 2 brought 6 more pounds of weight loss and 1.5 inches off my waist. In Round 3, I actually gained 5 pounds but lost 0.5 inches on my waist. My chest and arms are now bigger, so more muscle, less fat. I still want to drop my body fat percentage by 3 to 5 percentage points. So, as I wrote earlier, this is my "In Transformation Story", because I'm still transforming my body.
The "before" photo was taken after three weeks of P90X (and 7+ pounds of weight loss). The picture with me playing the trombone was taken in January when I was still around 240 pounds.
