Lock Haven, PA At 42 years old I entered graduate school so I wouldn't become stagnant in the job market; however, I neglected to not remain stagnant in my health. I slowly gained 20 pounds over the course of a year and went from my normal weight of 165 which is 15 lbs heavier than I should be, to weighing 185. I could start to feel myself literally clogging up and feeling all around heavy and lethargic. At 42 years old I entered graduate school so I wouldn't become stagnant in the job market; however, I neglected to not remain stagnant in my health. I slowly gained 20 pounds over the course of a year and went from my normal weight of 165 which is 15 lbs heavier than I should be, to weighing 185. I could start to feel myself literally clogging up and feeling all around heavy and lethargic. Like many here I'd kept seeing P90X on television. I'd been active and in good shape before but always had trouble maintaining once I reach my goal weight which has always been being able to stand on a scale dressed under 150. So, I knew I needed something that was convenient and set, a system I could follow daily that wouldn't be too intrusive, to me that is a max of 1 hr a day from start to finish including getting ready. P90X seemed to be a great possibility. I ordered P90X and a chin bar. The P90X arrived in the mail and I started to get excited. Then it happened. While working in my basement I was being stupid standing on a table fixing a beam when I slipped. The table fell sideways while I was falling and my center fell directly on the edge of the table I could hear each of my four ribs cracking like you break a stick. I was literally teetering on the edge of the table fully suspended in the air with the table wedged in my side. I slowly tilted myself so I would slide off and hit the floor. I couldn't breathe and I was grasping for air. My wife, thank god she's a doctor, heard and came and all I could say was, "Hospital," in a hasp voice. She called an ambulance. By the time the ambulance got me to the hospital I could breath ok sort of but it hurt when I moved, the x-rays showed I'd snapped my 9th,10th,11th, and 12th ribs completely in half clean breaks the one rib was broken both in the front and the back. The best news was I hadn't punctured anything, my lungs and spleen where all unaffected. I stayed in the hospital that night and the next day the chin up bar arrived, just the cherry on top. I was told it could take 8-9 weeks to "fully heal". So those 9 weeks I did not do too much especially since around week 2 I moved and could hear more snapping. So I took it real easy for another 9 weeks. During this time I was getting nervous about how strenuous P90X might be and if it might lead to me hurting myself again. I noticed the Power 90 program and it seemed like an easier introductory program I could start out with to slowly get myself to where I knew I needed to be if I wanted to get my life back. I knew if I kept going like I was without exercise and not getting my life in shape I would effectively come to an end figuratively and literally and all I'd be doing is clicking out the clock. So I ordered Power 90 and started Jan 3 along with most New Year’s resolutionists but this wasn't a new year’s resolution this was a life realization of what I must do, not need, but must do if I wanted to live. My ultimate goal is sequentially make my way up the ladder => P90, P90x, P90x+, and Insanity, if possible by the end of the year but I will not be disappointed if I do not achieve that as long as I am on the path moving forward and not backwards, doesn't matter how fast I go down this road as long as I am on it and I'm moving forward eventually the road will come to an end and I shall reach my goal, with help from everyone here. I am a student, and have been all my life, I study everything, and I will be sharing my knowledge and what I learn from others to help those who were and are like me, in need of a way.
