See in November 2004 I competed in Woman’s Bodybuilding and got down to a very desirable weight 132 ripped and lean. I have enclosed the article I did for a newsletter about my experience. Then we decided to get pregnant, we were told at 15 weeks we were having twins, we were so happy. Who wouldn’t want to have one pregnancy? So I got up to a whopping 185 with the twins. So after they were born , I wanted to get back into shape , I saw the infomercial for Turbo Jam and thought man I could do that it looks like so much fun. So I ordered the tapes and tried them out and got hooked, I have every one of Chalene’s Tapes, including her new Ball Series. So I started back in March 2006,
Turbo Jam has changed my life, I can’t wait when I wake up in the morning to do my tapes, I have tried to get our oldest daughter to try them, I guess being 4 years old its hard. lol. My husband has decided he wants to start to shed some extra weight so he too will be starting Turbo Jam very soon, maybe we can write up a success story for him

Thanks again for volunteering to contribute and share your success story in
the BCABBA newsletter! I'm really looking forward to hearing what you have
to say about your experience.
I have a set of questions below that I will use to create a write up for the
newsletter. Feel free to answer any that you want...or all of them!

Questions:

What motivated you to get into better shape?
Well after having my daughter I was at 205 pounds. At this weight I found it hard and discouraging to shop for clothes. So I got a gym membership and started to workout.

What motivated you to compete?
My boyfriend took me to a competition and some of the competitors talked with me. I felt so proud of them. I knew that I wanted to feel the high that they were having.

At what point did you decide to compete? (At the beginning of your weight
loss, during your weight loss)
After I started working out and dieting, I noticed that I was losing weight rapidly. I got lean but I did not know how to get ripped. So I decided to get a personal trainer to teach me how to get ripped. After seeing a show I asked her if she thought I had what it takes and she said yes.

In that year what kind of emotions did you go through?
Let’s just say, I never liked the bulking up part. When I started my cutting diet and started to see my abs for the first time I was very impressed and surprised.

What obstacles did you have to overcome?
There were many of them, from sticking to the diet to learning my poses and routine.

How did your family and friends react to your change?
I can honestly tell you that people react to this in many different ways.
My boyfriend was a believer and always told me that I could do it.
My friends and people at the gym told me that they can’t believe how quickly I was changing. My family lives far away so they saw the most dramatic change. Some were so happy they were in tears and others did not understand why someone would want to get so lean.

Do you think that you would have been as successful with your body
transformation if you did not have plans to compete?
No, if I did not compete I would have lost most of the weight but I would not have gotten as lean and ripped as I did for the competition.

What was your biggest surprise about competing?
Going on stage I never thought I would be as nervous as I was. When I was on stage I totally forgot my routine. Luckily we were not judged by our routines.

What was the toughest part about preparing for a competition?
The week of the competition I changed my diet which I found really hard to stick to. Reducing my water was hard because I am used to drinking it all day long.

How did you stay motivated while preparing to compete? I could see
My results everyday kept me keep going and my friends from theg gym and family could notice too. Loved the compliments, who wouldn’t LOL

Has competing changed your life at all?
Yes, it has changed so many things in my life. I now know how to eat right. I have met a lot of new friends. It has helped my career and boosted my self esteem.

Besides a great body, what else did you take away from competing?
The most important thing for me is the great new friends that I have met.

What are your future plans for competing?
I will be competing again. I really enjoyed it and I have made this my hobby. That was my first competition and I have learned a lot that from it. There are so many little changes that I will do next time.

Any goals you would like to share?
Next competition I will come in with a lot more muscle. I weighted in at 133lbs and my goal for the next one is 150lbs.

Had you ever been on stage before you competed?
No, it was not just my first competition but also my first time in front of so many people.

How did it feel to finally be on stage after all those months of dieting?
For me getting on stage was like going on Fear factor I was really nervous. Once I was on stage it was a highlight of my life. What a rush I am so happy I did it.

Why did you choose bodybuilding and not fitness or figure?
With my body type I feel that I best suited bodybuilding. I take nothing away from fitness and figure. In fact don’t be surprised if you see me venture into these in the future.

Do you have any advice for people wanting to get into shape or get into
competing?
I recommend getting a personal trainer. Having the guidance of one makes the process so much easier. Besides that eat, sleep and work out.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank-you Lindsey, for letting me share my experience.
