I am now a full time mom and wife. I am VERY passionate about health and fitness, especially about how food afffects our bodies- my sons affectionately refer to me as "the health nut". I keep evolving through reading and research as well as experience, and love to share what I learn. I had always considered myself a healthy person. I made the time to work out at least 3 times a week despite having a full time job, a husband, 2 sons and 3 dogs. I focused mainly on strength More ...
I had always considered myself a healthy person. I made the time to work out at least 3 times a week despite having a full time job, a husband, 2 sons and 3 dogs. I focused mainly on strength training with some fast walking when the weather permitted, but I don't ever remember feeling good. As I got older, it just got worse- to the point where I would come home from work and just sit on the couch for hours before I even took my coat off! Something was wrong with me, I just knew it. I began seeing doctor after doctor, each of them told me that I was just getting older and I should just learn to relax. I was prescribed anti-deppressants to help me learn how to relax, but all they ever did was turn me into a zombie. I could not live like that! After a month, I just stopped taking them. I began to do my own research on nutrition, and how it affects the body. I devoured book after precious book and scoured the web for every bit of information I could find. The way I was eating was what the USDA mandates as a "healthy diet", I was anything but healthy. I began to see the profits made by the food industry is at our expense. I had been following a low-carb diet for years, never had a problem being diciplined with it because I thought it was the right thing to do. As a result of my research, I went from being a strict Atkins follower to being a complete vegan- literally over night! My body began to recover from the years of ingesting meats and dairy that were laden with steroids, hormones and carcinogens. Listening to what my body needed became easier as I became cleaner. But here I was, 35+ pounds overweight-what I was doing before was NOT working! My husband had also gained about 35 pounds and we were both frustrated that the same ol' workouts seemed to be a waste of our time. We had purchased the P90X set a couple of years ago, but it sat in the closet. Then one night as we were watching TV, Tony's infomercial came on-what he was saying about "muscle confusion" seemed to make sense....could that be what we were missing? Well, we think the results speak for themselves. We now ENJOY working out-and look forward to it 6 days a week. Energy is no longer a problem. I never thought it was possible for me to have a firm midsection! Remember-what you put into your body is 90% of the equation, don't sabotage your hard work with junk. As a Christian woman I believe what the Bible says- your body is the temple of God. Make it a palace fit for a King. Besides, how can we serve him when we're laid up in the hospital waiting to die way too soon? I'm with Tony- "aging schmaging. I'm not getting older, I'm getting better!" If he can look that good at 50, I have no excuse.
