In April 2002 I completed 7 ½ years of service in the U.S. Army. I was in great shape and weighed about 190 lbs. Over the course of the following 6 years my activity level decreased and so did my fitness level, which resulted in my increased weight. In May of 2008 I weighed in at 226 lbs. This would have been great if I was a heavyweight boxer, but I wasn’t.
I had been watching the commercial for the P90X for a few months and even had it recorded on my DVR. I watched it over and over and couldn’t believe the transformations that I was seeing. I kept telling myself that I was going to order it. I finally did and what happened next changed my life. I remember the day that the P90X came in the mail; I was so excited. I popped in the intro DVD, watched it, then watched the first workout, Chest & Back, to see what I was getting myself into. I was a little intimidated. It took me about two weeks to work u p the nerve to push play, but I finally did on Memorial Day 2008.
That first workout broke me down, but I completed it!! The next day I was so sore, but I couldn’t wait to get to the next workout. I started to see results quickly, around two weeks in. They were small changes, my clothes were a little looser, I felt stronger, and I noticed that my “love handles” were jiggling a little less. I was following the fat shredder nutrition plan and my energy level was increasing….. I was feeling great!!
Flash to day 60: I stepped on the scale for the first time since day one. I stepped on, looked down, stepped off, stepped back on, looked down, stepped off, stepped back on and looked down again. I almost passed out!!! I was down to 190 lbs!!! I couldn’t believe it!! I should have, because other people were starting to notice that something was different about me. The scale wasn’t lying to me….I had already dropped 36 lbs!!!
As the summer progressed so did I and many more people were asking me what I was doing to get/ stay in shape. Some of my buddies were joking me a little and calling me Mr. P90X, but it was fine with me because I knew where I was headed. I would tell anyone who would listen about the program and would talk forever if they were willing to listen. My results were proof to all that the P90X was the real deal and quite a few people ordered it because they saw what it did for me. Some folks say the price is too high, but my reply is always the same, “I would have paid $10,000 to be in this shape and to feel this good.”
Two years later, I am still using the P90X, I’m down to 174 lbs with 11% body fat. I started running again and currently run about 25 miles a week. I completed two half marathons and my next big goal is to complete a full marathon. Looks like my next stop will be the Rock N Roll half marathon this September.
