I’m a 48 year old Mom who used to be in great shape when I had the time to work out on a regular basis. I got married, had a child and started a business this last 10 years and my fitness has taken a back seat to taking care of everything and everyone which I don’t regret. I’ve tried several times to get on track again, but I am falling short of reaching my goals. My Dad passed away a year I’m a 48 year old Mom who used to be in great shape when I had the time to work out on a regular basis. I got married, had a child and started a business this last 10 years and my fitness has taken a back seat to taking care of everything and everyone which I don’t regret. I’ve tried several times to get on track again, but I am falling short of reaching my goals. My Dad passed away a year and a half ago at Christmas time and I tried to recapture the feeling of having his wonderful Italian spirit around by cooking and eating too much Italian food….thing I don’t normally eat like sausage, pepperoni and lots of cheese. I was even drinking Pepsi and I never dirnk pop because it’s so bad for our body. Well, all that happened was to gain 10 lbs and still feel the loss of my Pops. So, now I am struggling to get on a diet, committed exercise program and take control of my life back into my own hands. Now I’m about 15 to 17 lbs over weight and have tried everything only to lose momentum after taking off about 3 pounds. My goal of course is to not lose momentum. I want to have my shapely body back. I want to feel good getting dressed in the morning. I want to have the energy back that I know I will have when I have great physical health. There are a million reasons and I’ve written down about 40 of them. You would think that would be enough to keep me motivated! My friend Jen recommended the P90X program and her and me, along with my husband Jim will be doing it at the same time. She has started and we are going to support one another. Jim and I are waiting for ours to arrive in the mail. I do hope that finally, this is the answer. My biggest struggle will be menopause which I am experiencing now and staying away from sugar. EEEK!

P90X LEAN IS NEXT!! I stuck with it, and in a little over 90 days lost 7% body fat, (almost 16 pounds of fat and 8.5 pounds on the scale) lost 12.5 total inches (3” on the hips) and gained 6 pounds of muscle. The next phase of the workout is using the P90X LEAN program. My goal is to lose another 15 pounds of fat and get to around 23% body fat. Although I’ve made good progress in 90 days, I have a long way to go which is especially evident looking at the “after” photo of myself. There is a lot of fat that just has to go away. Let’s see what the next phase does.
I BECAME A COACH! Visit me. I've motivated many people to "stick with it" and I can help you too!
30 DAYS INTO THE P90X PROGRAM: Before I started the P90X program I thought I had 15 pounds to lose but was shocked when I took my body fat and saw that it had jumped to 38%. That meant I’ve been fooling myself into believing I was in much better shape than I was and I was so shocked to realize that I had 33 pounds of fat to lose!
I have been on P90X for one month and have been frustrated because the scale basically stayed the same seeing only a two pound loss. I was working out hard, pushing myself, following the program, watching my diet and feeling great physical results. I feel like my body is stronger and better. The sore muscles disappeared and my neck has not felt this good in years, since a car accident caused whiplash well over 15 years ago. And I stand up straighter and my flexibility has improved dramatically.
I also am dealing with peri-menopause (lowering progesterone levels resulting in higher estrogen levels) which has been a bothersome challenge as a premenopausal state, producing a sluggish metabolism and a roller coaster of emotions.
When I was younger it seemed weight loss programs produced fantastic results quickly and when I look back, pretty easily. Now at the age of 48, the work is much harder and results more gradual.
So, today I was astounded when I took my body fat measurements. In 28 days I have gained a surprising 3 pounds of lean muscle and lost more than 5 pounds of fat and 4.5 inches as well. Now with the new percentage of lean muscle I have less to lose (28 pounds) rather than the staggering number I started with of 33 pounds. I found the results to be almost unbelievable!
I put my measurements and body fat percentage and goals onto an excel spreadsheet and now it shows me that if I gain 6 pounds of lean tissue on the P90X Program I’ll only have 20 pounds to lose to get to 23% body fat with the gain in lean tissue. Wow, is that incentive or what!
I tried to follow the high protein diet and found that it was too much food for me, so I’ve modified it to include more protein drinks and love the recovery drink and feel that it’s helped my muscles heal efficiently, so I could continue on the program as scheduled. Had it not been for the recovery drink I may have found a great excuse (soreness) to stray from the program.
Lastly, my story includes some additional real life challenges. The week I started the program my daughter broke her arm then only five days after I began my family was hit in their car while at a stop sign by a vehicle traveling over 60 miles an hour resulting in serious injury for my family, husband, daughter and sister-in law. Thankfully my daughter faired the best with more minor injuries and everyone is healing with physical therapy. My husband and I had planned to do P90X together and he has not been able to exercise yet as he continues the healing process but is committed to it as soon as he is able.
This could have been yet another excuse not to prioritize my health, but I said to myself, “This is real life and things are going to happen. I will find a way to take care of my family and me at the same time.”
I am excited and very motivated to see what the next 28 days produce. I am ready for Phase II and the day my husband is feeling well enough to enjoy all the benefits of an awesome program. I love all of the workouts!
Ciao for Now! Tamera
