I am 50 years old and a single mom of 2 wonderful children. I have owned a video production company for over 25 years. I do everything from camera work to post-production editing. Carrying heavy equipment was not a problem when I was younger but as the years progressed it became more and more difficult.
I had been fit most of my life: cheerleading and track in high school, basketball and tennis in college. I skied, played volleyball and golfed.
After the birth of my 2 children, I lost most of the baby weight and still remained quite active. I joined a gym in my early 30's.
When I hit my late 40's things started to fall apart. I wasn't eating healthy...my diet consisted of pasta, fast food and diet soda. I canceled my gym membership and slowly the weight began to pile on. So much so, that I stopped doing the things I once loved...skiing, tennis, golf...no way would go out on golf course looking the way I was!
Before I knew it I had gained over 40 pounds!!! I was miserable and depressed.
One day my 10 year old niece asked me to show her how to do a cartwheel. Being a cheerleader back in high school, I overestimated my physical capabilities and agreed to the feat. As I started my approach, I hopped off one foot, and attempted to place my hands on the grass below when I suddenly felt a twinge in my wrists as my arms could not support my weight. I collapsed to the ground and sat there in disbelief and embarrassment that I could no longer do something as simple as a cartwheel.
I was 49 years old and in July of 07, my 78 year old Dad was diagnosed with a fatal disease. After his Doctor told him he only had two weeks to live, my Dad said to me “take care of yourself, you don’t want to end up in a hospital, like me”.
Two incidents that made me aware of my declining physical condition, but I still did not know what to do.
And then something wonderful happened. Tony Horton, a high school classmate of mine would often come back for our class reunions. He would tell us of his exercise programs and how it could benefit us. When I actually saw what he did, I laughed ..."no way could I ever do that"!!!
In 2008 I saw Tony again. He noticed how overweight I had become and tried to convince me once more that his program could help me. This time, he threatened to punch me in the nose if I didnt at least try. I was turning 50 in 3 months. He said give yourself the gift of health and fitness for your 50th. I thought, what better gift could I give myself?
On April 1, 2008 my journey to health and fitness began. I lost over 25lbs and went from a size 14 to a size 6. I have a renewed sense of energy! I have my life back, enjoying the things I love: tennis, skiing, golf, kayaking and more. I recently became a Beachbody Coach so I can inspire others that they too can become healthy and fit...at any age!

If I was going to do this, I was going to do this right. After I received the DVDs I went to the Beachbody website, created a custom designed menu based on their suggested amount of calories, bought vitamins, recovery drinks and protein shakes.
My 57year old fiancée Bob, who had gained a little weight himself over the years decided to join me. At first, it was hard, I couldn’t even do two push- ups and my muscles ached the next day. But we stuck to it. We gave up diet sodas and anything made of white flour. We were eating lots more fruits and vegetables. As we progressed, our energy levels came back. I was feeling happier and hopeful that this could really work.
Tony Horton was both inspiring and amusing. He made me feel that if an exercise was too hard, it was OK, I could modify the workout and build up to the advanced methods. He made it fun with his sense of humor and upbeat personality. I looked forward each day to popping in that DVD and pushing play.
In no time we went from level 1-2 to level 3-4. I was able to do 12-15 push-ups now with ease. The pounds were melting off, our energy levels were lifted, and we were feeling great.
As week 12 approached Bobby and I had both lost over 15 lbs and I had dropped two pant sizes. My pants were literally falling off of me! I couldn’t believe my transformation, especially after I had taken my Day 90 photograph. The difference from Day1 and Day 90 was unbelievable.
To celebrate my 50th birthday, I had my family and close friends over to my home for a barbeque. Before the festivities began, I got everyone’s attention by saying I had something special to show my niece.
To their astonishment, I raised my hands in the air, hopped off one foot, placed my hands on the ground, pushed off with my newly formed arms and performed a perfect cartwheel.Everybody applauded and I had the feeling... my Dad was too!

07/25/10 I started my journey of fitness 2 years ago and I am amazed at the things I have been doing ...things I never even imagined I would ever done before. Lat week I ran in my first 5k race.
