I completed P90X (the first time) in Feb 2008. This was after about 2 years worth of working out according to the another popular program. In 90 days, I became much more flexible, and for the first time ever I had some definition in my shoulders and arms.
I believe, however, that P90X is more of a lifestyle than it is a workout. As such, I've incorporated other Beachbody products (Turbo Jam, HipHop Abs, Power 90 and P90X plus) to provide variety, and periodically I'll run a complete 90-day program. I am staying fit, active, and looking to rid myself of the whole idea of aging.
I'd be happy to help you generate the same type of mindset. Let me know how I can help!!

In college and for 6 years as an active duty Army officer, I always had very good cardiovascular fitness. I was physically fit, but I completely lacked any type of muscle definition.
I tried supplements (mostly meal replacement shakes and various protein powders), a personal trainer, and several different workout methods found in Men’s Health and Men’s Fitness magazines. All seemed to end in the same result. I remained fit, and even became stronger, but I did not generate any muscle definition to speak of.
Following the Army and as I began my civilian career, I “tried” to work out 5 days a week doing some form of cardio and weight regime, and ate pretty much what I wanted and didn’t think it was affecting my physique. However, I was wrong. At age 30, my metabolism was slowing due to inconsistent workouts which lacked intensity. I didn’t notice much since my weight remained fairly constant, but, alas, I was exchanging muscle weight for fat – in the wrong direction.
The call for action occurred shortly after I was promoted to major in the US Army Reserve. On the day of the promotion ceremony, I realized I hadn’t worn my class A uniform for a while (maybe 4 years), and I was definitely dismayed to find that everything was tight – shirt, coat, pants, and, yeah, the belt. I tried to convince myself, that the tight clothing was as a result of the weight training I was doing…It wasn’t. The big wake-up call happened when I looked at the pictures of my promotion ceremony. In short, I looked like an aging chubby guy.
I looked at many options for a diet and fitness regime (I am educated in physiology and fitness and know well that it takes both a good diet and good workouts to be healthy). Most of the programs out there provide details on one of the two aspects, but don’t give a detailed approach to both. The programs that do focus on both tend to place too much emphasis on just a few food groups (good proteins coupled with good carbs, for instance, but no emphasis on fruits and vegetables). Team Beachbody was the one exception.
With Team Beachbody I found a fitness regime (P90X) that was supposed to challenge even competitive athletes while focusing on a varying diet that included all the food groups. With the promise of hard workouts, that could be done at home with minimal equipment, a balanced diet, and an excellent online support group. I jumped into P90X!
Probably the toughest challenge in transforming my fitness level and transforming my body was my travel schedule. On the road, it’s incredibly easy to eat very unhealthy food and seemingly difficult to follow a regimented eating and workout program. However, I found that with just a little discipline and foresight, it really wasn’t that hard.
Prior to a trip, I would make sure to pack the right clothes and bring along DVDs which were conducive to in-room workouts. I also made sure to pack Peak Performance Bars and Recovery Drink.
While on the road, I followed the routines and managed my schedule so I could eat when I was supposed to eat. At restaurants, I found that the chefs and cooks were actually very amicable about cooking healthy meals, if asked. My food of choice at a restaurant is the caesar salad with double meat (either grilled chicken or grilled salmon) with the dressing on the side and just a “few croutons”.
I dedicated myself for 90 days to the P90X program to the letter (ok, I had a Thanksgiving party and New Year’s Eve party to go to, but nobody’s perfect). The results were astounding (the pictures speak for themselves).
I don’t think I look like an aging, chubby guy anymore, and I actually have some definition in my arms, chest, and back. Probably the best result of the 90 day event was the improved health and flexibility of my muscles. I play recreational ice hockey and baseball (yes, hardball…you can find a league if ya look!), and in the past was always nagged by little injuries that hindered my performance. Since doing P90X, and changing my diet, I am faster, stronger, and have more endurance than ever before, and I am completely injury free.
I would venture to say the workouts are about 25% of the results with the nutrition account for the other 75%. For anyone new to the program, you will find a well balanced diet and exercise plan, and I look forward to making it a baseline workout/meal plan for life. (The recovery drink is awesome, and the Peak Performance Bars are the tastiest we’ve ever found.)
I rewarded myelf with a trip to wine (and dine) country in California and then took a few months where I still hit play and generally did eat right. I am now ready for a third run through P90X/P90X+/TurboJam combo, and I’ve made new goals for myself. One of the goals is for me, as a coach, to assist others to join us in this healthy lifestyle.
Please let me know how I can help you achieve your goals!!!
