brooklyn, NY Hi! My name is Jardena (pronounced jar-day-na). I'm 28 years old, I live in NYC (born and raised), and I've been working as an emergency medicine physician assistant for the past 6 years. I grew up in a traditional African American family with a strong family medical history of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. I've managed to reduce my risks by losing 95lbs over the last 10 years, Hi! My name is Jardena (pronounced jar-day-na). I grew up in a traditional African American family with a strong family medical history of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. I've managed to reduce my risks by losing 95lbs over the last 10 years, but I have yet to reach my goal. Let me explain with first a little history: Growing up, I can remember the so called "Commandments of Eating" which were the following: A. You finished everything on your plate (seconds available upon request) B. You filled up on starches ( rice, breads, etc.) instead of protein because it was expensive C. ALWAYS LEAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! By my senior year of high school, both my weight and cholesterol level neared 300! I was also told by my doctor that I was at risk of developing Type II Diabetes. I hid behind my height (I'm 5'11" bare foot) but I was 275lbs. I was in denial, I was angry; and I was hurting both physically and emotionally. It was not until I saw a picture of myself from a previous Thanksgiving Dinner, did I realize how out of control I was. I mean, I was almost 20 years old and I was already complaining of knee and back pain. My confidence and self- esteem were very low and to add insult to injury, I was in a very unhealthy, abusive relationship. I realized had hit rock bottom. It was not until after my dad said to me, "Your family history is not your destiny", was I ready to make a drastic change! AND CHANGE I DID!!
Beachbody has allowed me not only to simply change my weight, but my whole outlook toward health and fitness.
This journey is not just about a number on a scale, but about the cultivation and growth of inner strength and determination that you never thought you had!

Change is a journey and over the years I have tried various diets (both healthy and unhealthy) and multiple exercise regimens including Power 90 (way back in the day, lol) and more recently P90X (although inconsistently). In the last 10 years I was able to shed 95lbs. and gain self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-love. But this isn't about food, exercise, and weight lost anymore....deep down, I know I have yet to reach my full potential. I want to be "in the best shape of my life". A little over a year ago, a certain friend who had not seen me in a while, bumped in to me in the street and said, "Wow, how did you lose all that weight!" I told her about Beachbody/P90X and I gave her the "Watch this DVD first" disc. In a matter of months, this person has transformed her life, has achieved incredible physical fitness, and inspires thousands...including me. I realized I had a story to tell and by sharing I could change the course of someone's life for the better! I embraced the Beachbody team like I never did before and it was the best thing I ever did!!! Over time I became more consistent and disciple with my eating habits and my workouts; I joined the support groups and asked for help/advice. And more importantly, I made myself accountable which is KEY to staying on track and success!!
Plugging into Team Beachbody's AMAZING support system is so important for long term success. We are here to encourage and guide you on your journey to great health! USE IT;)
This has proven to be the toughest and most challenging leg of the race, but I know it will be the most rewarding and I am looking forward to it!
