Apex, NC I'm a busy mom to four kids who has successfully maintained a weight loss of ninety pounds for over five years now thanks to a balanced diet and a consistent exercise program (a mix & match of strength training, running, TurboFire and P90X). As a single mom in her early thirties, I weighed 240 pounds, worked a desk job, ate fast food daily and washed it down with cola. I had little energy to play with my then 3 year old son when I came home from work. Sharing a townhome with my younger sister, I volunteered to start the Atkins diet with her- not because I had some a-ha moment and realized I was terribly unhealthy, but because I wanted to help her out to reach her weight loss goals. She didn't want to be tempted by carb-laden foods so asked that I go on the diet with her. I was amazed at how rapidly I began to lose weight and how much better I felt so I stuck with Atkins for an entire year and, in the process, lost ninety pounds.
A month or so before I reached my weight loss goal, I met my now husband (a bona-fide workout fiend). I abandoned strict Atkins for a well-balanced diet and incorporated workouts into my daily routine. It was this new approach that has helped me to maintain the weight loss for 6 years now, as well as to build muscle and continually surprise myself with newfound abilities- I have run a full marathon, a few halfs, can do full-on push-ups that would put some guys to shame. Most importantly, I can keep up with my kids, tackle stairs fearlessly and just plain feel better and stronger than I ever have...even in my teen years!
I attribute all this to my husband's support and encouragement, as well as to Beachbody programs. We've completed the P90X program last year with amazing results and I'm now finishing up a TurboFire circuit. My next challenge: Insanity! Bring it Shaun T!
