I am a 31 year old working professional. I am currently completing a combined Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration and Business Administration, MHA/MBA. I also hold a Bachelor’s in Clinical Laboratory Science and a Master’s in Laboratory Medicine. In the summer of 2011 I took a new position within my company as a Product Manager and relocated to sunny So. California. Previously I was working as a Sales Account Manager for a Clinical Diagnostics Manufacturer specializing in HIV and Hepatitis testing, Diabetes Testing, Autoimmune and Infectious Disease Testing, Tranfusion Medicine, and Laboratory Quality Control Products. Previously to that, I spent several years working as a Medical Technologist and in management in a hospital laboratory.
I spend my free time spending time with my girlfriend and 2 amazing pit bulls, working with at-risk youth in the community and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. I also spent some time coaching high school basketball and soccer.
In high school I was a 4 sport athlete and maintained being athletic, active, and healthy through college. Throughout this time in my life, the training was very intense, but nothing has compared to what Team Beachbody has offered through its various programs.
In January 2008, I experienced a detached retina in my right eye and due to complications resulted in 9 operations over 11 months. The recovery period was about 18 months long due to restrictions on activity and exercise while the retina healed. After all was said and done, I never regained vision in my right eye. Then just as I was beginning to rebound and get active, I slipped a disc in my back that also pinched my sciatic nerve. It took until August 2010 before I could start resuming full activity with no restrictions. During that time of restrictions on activity that started in 2008, I watched myself balloon from an active 230 lbs. to topping out in Oct. 2010 at 355 lbs. I spent two months getting myself active again and getting myself to the mid-330's before I plateaued. I elevated my game and brought it with p90x to get me to my next level and bounce back stronger than ever! I am now on my second round of P90X and looking forward to Insanity next.
I’m healthier and more energetic than ever. It feels great knowing I’ve prolonged my life not only for me but for my girlfriend and dogs. I was never interested in the “quick” fix. I’ve made small “lifestyle” changes that have stuck. When you have a family and a full time job it’s difficult to turn your life upside down and keep up with the pace. What I’ve done has worked and the recipe is simple. The journey isn’t always easy but with hard work, consistency, and some motivation (this is hard for me too sometimes) you can go a long way.
