Having served 13 years in the Military, I was accustomed to a very physically active lifestyle. Anyone who knows me will agree I am NOT a homebody or coach potatoe. However after I got out of the military and joined the ranks of the normal working class, I took on a more sedintary lifestyle. I sat behind a desk for 8 - 12 hours a day at work and at home. I traveled less, went out less, worked out less and took my health and physical fitness less seriously. One day I found 60 pounds extra on the scale I perched myself on. From that day forward I knew THINGs had to change. I began to try to reinstitute the exercise regimen I was used to doing when I was in the military. I found it extremely hard, however, to keep myself motivated. I also couldn't find a way to fit it in to my hectic schedule on a consistent basis. 3 months went by on this haphazard routine and I was 5 pounds lighter. I should have been happy I guess, but I was so disappointed. I realized at that time that it had to be more than just the exercise added to my lifestyle. I needed to change my WHOLE lifestyle. I need a Lifestyle Makeover. My only problem was...I had no idea where to begin. Because I'm a hopeless insomniac on top of everything else, I would order all those late-night products from TV --- the potions and pills and exercise contraptions. Now I had a virtual personal pharmacy and gym in my living room. It was all too overwhelming, so I did nothing. Although I used very little of what I purchased, I did take notes ( mental and written) while watching all those informercials and took some of the things I heard to heart. Other than the exercise part of it, I needed to change my eating habits and the way I thought about food. I adopted a "nothing to eat after 7pm" rule. It was rough at first, but I got used to it after some time. It did help that I worked an overnight shift and it was often too busy to even take a break let alone eat something. I dropped 30 pounds in about 5 months. I started to get some energy back, so then I decided to find some friends, who were active or who worked out regularly and JOIN them in their activities. I knew that if I was around people who led a more active lifestyle, it would rub off on me somehow ( I hoped). AND it worked. 30 more pounds dripped off my body almost effortlessly. Maybe I should say " without me thinking aboout it consciously" because it did take some (ok a lot) effort to play basketball, go biking, play tennis, go skiing, go swimming, go hiking and the list goes on. BUT I didn't think about the effects of doing all of that because I was having fun with my friends. The CHANGE had to be fun or engaging enough NOT to think about the fact that I am doing this to lose weight or get in shape. That was a magic moment. The other was that I had to look at food like fuel. I pictued my body like a car. In order to go from place to place, I would need fuel. But if I'm not planning on going anywhere, I don't need to put more fuel in my body than I'm going to use. And putting a high octane grade of fuel in, helps the car run better (better input, better output). By adopting all of this I had officially and significantly transformed my lifestyle. Problem #2, how do I sustain the weightloss and fitness level without feeling like I'm living a life of deprivation, desperation and punishment. I needed to find something e-z to follow that was proven to be successfull and that would easily fit into my new life plan and make sense. Staying up late, as usual, I flipped tthe channels and caught this fit guy talking muscle confusion. I had never heard that term. I knew about the plateau effect and nobody ever seemed to know how to get over it. But that phrase caught my attention and I watched the remainder of the program. After about six days and my sixth time watching it, I ordered it. I figured I can't lose anything. If I don't like it, I'll just send it back before the 30day trial was over. It was a free trial and all I paid was the shipping costs. What a deal. HOWEVER............ Once I got it and used it, I was hooked. Power90 was my maintenance plan. Actually I ended up loosing another 20 pounds of fat and put on about 20 pounds of muscle. I was so excited about my results. Everyone around me noticed the huge physical change in my appearance. It was a huge ego booster as well (really huge....like big head huge). But I didn't let it get to my head. I just let everyone know what I did to get where I was. I was the example they needed to get started taking their health and fitness more seriously. That's the best gift I've given myself and I think the people I helped appreciated it as well. I know many people suffer in silence because they feel hopeless and isolated and alone. You can be a blessing if you just open up your mouth and heart and talk to people and let them know that there's a way out....... that there's REAL help out here and REAL people to help you. Since then I have gone through my phases of high active and low active periods, but I have always come back to the basics of my lifestyle makeover plan. Figure out your FOOD and what you're using it for. Be active and fun with friends. Be grateful for all of the small accomplishments in your journey to better health and fitness. Don't start or continue to beat yourself up. You deserve a break, at least from that. Stay focused and positive. Surround yourself with people you want to be like or who can help you get to where you want to be. Laugh alot. I really respect the people at Beachbody because they opened up an opportunity for people to support one another on many levels. I've bought and used many of their fitness programs and products and recommend them regularly to people who I know who are on their fitness journeys. This is a win-win-win situation. I know it. I can see it & feel it. My Progress My fitness goal: Build Muscle Transformation story
