Transformation story

We started this journey on October 10, 2007 and there have been many ups and downs along the way.

We started this journey on October 10, 2007 and there have been many ups and downs along the way.

My wife, a neighbor, and I started with Slim in 6. At that time I weighed 256 and was 59. Needless to say I had been out of shape for many, many years. For those of you who don’t know, Slim in 6 has 3 phases, each is 2 weeks long. It took me 16 weeks to get to the level where I could complete the workout without pushing pause. Problem was, I didn’t really stick to the meal plan, but I did manage to get down to about 250.

Then we fell off of the get fit wagon and my weight went back up a couple pounds. I decided to go to the Second Annual Beachbody Summit with my brother (actually it was his idea to go) in March of 2009 and I guess you could say that is when the light finally came on. I started over with Power 90 and immediately lost a couple pounds. After about 50 days of Circuit 1-2, I had lost an additional 8 pounds. I could tell a difference because my clothes started to fit different. They were getting tighter in places and looser in others. At this point I moved to Circuit 3-4.

My wife and I did a lot of traveling during the summer of 2009 so it was hard to stick to a workout schedule. We took 3 cruises and drove to our hometown in Nebraska. Most of the cruise days, I actually worked out on the balcony of our stateroom with P90, Circuit 3-4.

In the fall of 2009, I decided to buy a bicycle and start riding it on November 1 and also start P90X – Lean Phase at that time. Right before Thanksgiving we received some bad news, my wife had been diagnosed with lung cancer, so our exercise program was put on hold for a while.

On January 6, 2010 my wife had surgery in La Jolla, CA and hopefully they got all of the cancer. I did manage to get to week 7 of P90X and had ridden my bike – 488 miles by then. I continued to ride my bike in San Diego and workout while my wife recuperated in the hospital. My wife had her checkup on February 10, 2010 and was cancer FREE – hooray. The next week I finished P90X – was only 3 weeks longer than I had originally anticipated. By the end of February, I had put just over 900 miles on the bike.

Because of my wife’s brush with cancer, we traveled even more in 2010. We drove 3,000 miles around the country and went on 4 cruises and once again our health and fitness goals went to the back burner. Finally in August of 2010 we really concentrated on our health and fitness. Both of us started of each day with Shakeology, she likes the Chocolate, while I like the Greenberry and she started Hip Hop Abs and I decided to do P90X – classic phase. We both took a well deserved break over Thanksgiving – 14 day cruise to Hawaii.

On January 3, 2011, I started P90X – classic phase again and have 2,000 miles on my bike now. I love P90X and riding my bike out in the fresh air. I am down to 211 now and my goal is to get below 200 by the time the summit rolls around this June, actually my target goal is 185 by then. When I get to 200 I will have lost 56 pounds since we started this journey. I think that’s the finish line up ahead.
