Hello. My name is Corey and I am a Sheriff’s Deputy in Sacramento, CA. Growing up, I was never a big kid. I was a fast runner but at 5-10 and 145lbs in high school, I was quite thin. While going to college, I began eating more often. At first, I welcomed the weight gain. At my ideal weight of 165lbs, I was happy. However, the weight did not stop. I peaked at 185 lbs. This is by no means obese, but I was overweight and miserable. I was out of shape, out of breath, and let’s face it… out of excuses.

I have always been interested in physical fitness but like many others, my priorities were unbalanced. I preferred watching television and playing games over exercising. Although the Sheriff’s Academy was a blessing and I dropped down to my ideal weight, I quickly gained it back afterwards.

In August, 2007 I got home from work early (5 o’clock AM) and decided to watch television. I saw the P90X infomercial and it inspired me. What I saw in the people in the infomercial was the person I wanted to be – fit, healthy, and…why not… ripped! I had a few reservations. The price was reasonable but I was strapped for cash. I had never in my life been able to do a pull-up. I did not own any weights. Clearly, I was not convinced.

A few days later I found the infomercial again and had my wife watch it with me. Again I was inspired. We discussed the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. My family members struggle with weight and my step father died of a heart attack in his forties. The prospect of dying young because of an unhealthy lifestyle was compounded by the dangerous nature of my job. With a wife and young daughter, I had no choice but invest in my fitness.

Since that day, I have continued to push play. Week by week I get better and better. I have become more educated in nutrition and supplements. I purchased Selecttech dumbbells which were extremely helpful. Now, my priorities are corrected. I exercise first, seek entertainment last. In fact, I have grown to love exercising! To me, it is a game, a competition with myself. Can I do better than I did last week? Let’s find out! As Beachbody’s CEO Carl Deikler said, everything about you improves. I require less sleep to function well. I no longer require antacids. I recover from illness quicker. Dollar for dollar, P90X was the best investment I have ever made. I hope other’s take the risk and accept the challenge like I did. It undoubtedly increased my chances to live a longer, more productive and enjoyable life. Thank you Beachbody!
