It seems thay my waistline has been slowly trying to catch up with my age over the last 20 years and it's time to put a stake in the sand (or would that be notch in the belt?). I would like to re-focus my martial arts practice and set a goal of testing for 3rd degree black in the first half of 2010. This will require me to get my fitness and weight dialed in starting now, hence P90x. Interesting enough, what made me decide to start P90x was waking up one morning with the saying attributed to Einstein that the definition of insanity was "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". It pretty much dawned on me that this was a pretty good explanation of my exercise program and it was time to make a change.

4/4/2009. Today was SUPPOSED to be the end of week 3 of my p90x program. The first two weeks progressed as planned and overall, while challenged by the program, I was feeling that my fitness level was pretty well matched to take advantage of it. There was two weeks of soreness as I was getting in the groove to be sure but my pants were starting to fit better, I had lost about 5 pounds and overall, I was feeling good and energetic. As life would have it, on Monday at 6:30 am while soaked in sweat after doing chest and back, I got a phone call from my step Dad to tell me my Mom had had a heart attack during the night. Needless to say, it was bye bye P90x and hello 8 hour drive to PA! The good news is that Mom survived the attack and after 4 days in PA getting her home from the hospital and helping my family set up care arrangements, I'm back in NC. I managed to catch up on the P90x resistance oriented sessions but I'm thinking I'll repeat week 3 next week before moving on. How's that country song go.... If you want to hear G*d laugh, just tell him your plans!
4/19/2009 Just finished training block 1. Making slow but steady progress. Waist and Hips are down 2" and body fat has dropped 2%. Energy level is up and overall I'm feeling better. On to training block 2!
12/9/2009 Man what a year... and I mean that in a not so good way. It seems I'm living proof of the challenges of being part of the sandwich generation. Mid 2009 has been difficult with the loss of my Mom and recurrence of serious illness in my immediate family. After a long layoff I'm back on the program (starting on week 1/block 1 again... and yes.... I'm sore). At least I managed to get a handle on my diet over the last couple of months and have dropped from 192 to 175. Since I exercise at the dojo three times a week, I am doing P90X weight routines on Mon, Wed and Fri at 5:15 ish. I think cutting back on the early morning workouts is going to help a bit with getting out of the rack at O:dark 30! It's good to be one of Tony's kids again (Ok, maybe not a kid anymore, I just had my 55th Bday) . Keep pressing play!
