When I left the Air Force I was a smoker. Never pictured myself as one. I didn't start smoking until I enlisted at 25! It took me 2 years to quit. It was the hardest thing I ever did. I let myself do anything to quit including eat. Like many ex-smokers I ate and ate and started putting on the weight. Combined with getting married I balloned up until I was 220 lbs. That's 75 lbs over my High School weight. With my 20 year reunion 9 months away I was desperate. I started dieting like mad, and dropped 25 lbs. I was feeling good, but what I didn't realize was that dieting alone was not the path to becoming fit. Soon after, I was back up to about 212 pounds. The New Year came around and I started a workout program along with eating smaller frequent meals. I was making some progress but never could get the results I was after. I remained average. It seemed I could lose 15 pounds pretty easy but that 195 pounds was my "genetic plateau". I cycled between 205 and 195 for a couple of years, never giving up the desire to become really fit but not having a method of doing it. I had fallen into the classic American Yo-Yo dieters club. Fast forward to 2005 and I was back "working hard" to get in shape and lose my annual 10-15 pounds when I torn the meniscus in my knee. I had surgery and fell into a slump balloning back over 205 lbs again. I didn't do much of anything for 18 months or so, because I had a great excuse, I was recovering after all. It wasn't until the 2007 holiday season that a turning point event occurred. My son crawled up in my lap and said, "Dad you have a big belly like Santa". Oh boy, that was it, not only was I letting myself down but my kids where now seeing it and I was showing them it was okay to be a fat couch potato. No more!! The fire was rekindled! I started working out yet again but unfortunately nothing had really changed. My expectations where really low, but I was going after IT just like I always had. I was working out and flipping through the TV channels early one Sunday Morning. This gives you a good picture of my workout intensity, "working out while flipping through the channels." I stopped on an infomercial for P90X. This guy, Tony Horton, was describing a program like nothing I had ever seen. I'd never worked out to a video before. I always thought it would be too boring, repetitive, and monotonous. But THIS program had so much. I couldn't even get my mind wrapped around the scope of information on 12 DVDs. I was intrigued so I bought it! I was hoping that just maybe this workout video would help me get down to 185 pounds and a comfortable 34 inch waist. Little did I know what awaited me? What I found was that this program was intense. These guys worked me harder than I ever imagined I could. It wasn't easy, and I'll be honest here I almost quit a few times during the first couple of weeks. But then something saved me. You see Beachbody knows what it takes to succeed. They know that it takes intense workouts and a solid nutrition plan and they know that having a support system to maintain this focus is absolutely critical. So what saved me was that little clip after the workouts that says, "We're here to help you!!" It got me thinking, why not, and I started visiting the message boards every day. This was it. This was what I needed. This community of like minded people was exactly what was going to keep me engaged, committed and accountable to myself and my goals. I got onto a P90X message board just starting. I found that I loved the discussion with these people. That I could bring problems and questions to them and they would help me find solutions. They helped me learn how to make the diet plan work for me. I found myself thinking about their problems, even during my workouts, and making suggestions to them to help them reach their fitness goals. By week 8 of the program I had reached my goal of 185 pounds. I celebrated by going out and buying a bunch of new clothes. Little did I know that over the next 5 weeks that I’d lose another 16 pounds and 3 inches more off my waist.I was now a 30 inch waist and needed another new wardrobe!! When I finished my first round of P90X I couldn't have been happier with the results. It completely redefined what I thought was possible. I had been trying to find a way to regain the fitness level of my youth and as far as I'm concerned I succeeded and surpassed any level of fitness I have ever achieved. I so enjoyed the experience of helping people find solutions to their fitness challenges that I soon became a Coach. There is nothing more inspirational than to help someone find a solution, work past the mental block and make positive changes to their lives. My fitness challenge continues on. I’ve used many other great Beachbody products including Turbo Jam,Slim in 6,Hip Hop Abs,10 Minute Trainer. Lately I've been doing Tony Horton 1 on 1. This is as REAL as it gets, people. I've used ChaLEAN Extreme and Turbo FIRE. Both are AWESOME. If you are really looking for a cardio challenge the Shaun T's INSANITY is for you. This one is a test every single day. Beachbody has Teamed up with with the American Diabetes Association to help change America. Including the Premiere Ultra-Premium Nutrient Dense Meal Replace Shakeology! This stuff taste like dessert but is healthier than a salad. What a great suite of fitness fun and nutrition awaits anyone who decides to become part of this family. Probably one of the best things about this experience is how it has effected those I love. My kids are now portion controlling their own desserts!! My wife is up with me at 4:30AM pushing play. Can't get better than that. Here are the FACTS as I know them. This company is for real, these programs work, this community of people is out there ready to help & share in the fun of doing it.
