I have struggled with being overweight my whole life. Yo-yo diets have been a constant challenge. I always turned to food or munching as an emotional fix or way to fill in the void. Family food gatherings are a way of life in my Lebanese heritage. Outside of holidays, huge portions and buffet style are part of the everyday culture. Maintaining a balanced life is essential for me since diabetes and blood pressure are prevalent in my family medical history.
I am a fraternal twin and my twin is the skinny one. I was born big boned...so growing up I of course was the brunt of jokes. Friends would poke fun and tease about my appetite.
My largest weight at one point topped 215 pounds-- yes I actually have pictures of this at my sisters bridal shower and wedding in 2005.
My biggest set back was a recent knee surgery January 2009. Doctors found blood clots in my knee from a torn ligament. It was an emotional roller coaster ride. I had very little ability to do any physical activity. I went into a deep depression. I had no motivation to play with my kids or go out with my husband. I delved into guilty pleasures of junk food. I had no structure or nutrition in my eating habits, an example I do not want to pass down to my two boys.
The beach body lifestyle has transformed my literally...physically, emotionally and mentally. The success stories have inspired me to believe I too can do reach my fitness goals. I now want to be healthy and strong. I want to live a long life where I will grow old with my husband and see my boys grow up into strong, healthy, successful adults. I want to be a positive inspiration and role model for my family and friends.
