Greetings! I am Elizabeth! Liz – to old friends, Eli – to new ones and of course to all of the men in my life (Dad, Grandpas and Uncles), Betsy! And my sweet Kevin – he calls me Pooka. I love my name, but with over 40 nicknames you never know what people will end up calling you. Thank goodness I don’t have a personality disorder.
As a little girl, my family called me Betsy and for some in my Greetings! I am Elizabeth! I love my name, but with over 40 nicknames you never know what people will end up calling you. Thank goodness I don’t have a personality disorder.
As a little girl, my family called me Betsy and for some in my life…I will always be Betsy. Throughout high school and my undergrad in Finance and Real Estate, everyone knew me as Liz. My professional career brought me to Miller Brewing Company where I abbreviated my name on notes with Eli (Long vowel or for you football fans – like the Manning) and it stuck. With my career in full swing I decided to start my Master’s part time. After I graduated with an MBA and an emphasis in Information Technology, I decided to move forward with my dream of running my own business. After years of business plans and researching different businesses - I took the leap, but it wasn’t just any leap. I quit my comfortable job, broke up with my long-term boyfriend, moved out of town and started a business. It was the most challenging, stressful and unsettling few years of my life thus far, but I would never change it! I learned so much!
While running my business like many Americans I had to self-insure and pay out of pocket for medical and dental. Thank goodness I had always been healthy! My career didn’t really make or leave room for consistent exercising before this time; thank goodness my career didn’t cause more health problems. My health became a priority because I had individual health insurance – I needed to stay healthy. I have always been fairly careful about what I ate and exercised on and off. I have stayed a size 2,4 or 6 my entire life, I am not here for weight loss, but for a balanced lifestyle.
The good news is that I am in a much better place than I was a few years ago. I am finishing up my first year of another crazy life leap! I have learned from the mistakes I first made and have made better choices. My life is full with family and friends that love and encourage me, an incredibly bright future in a new business and my Prince Charming (who had been right under my nose for years). Go Figure?
So I realize my bio didn’t really discuss MDB. I am here for support and to be supported and for that reminder every once in awhile that life is too short and it needs to be lived!

I woke up in a cold sweat…my neck aching from the position I had been sleeping. Help! What am I doing with my life! The anxiety I felt was awful, I must have been crying in my sleep. Is this the life I wanted? I asked myself. Many thoughts filtered through my mind as I tried to get back to sleep. Whatever happened that night in my dreams and thoughts-it was an epiphany. I have been trying to change my life ever since. How so you might ask.
By living, by experiencing and by growing….
It started with a list! ”What I want to do before I die.” This is a list of places I want to see, things I want to do and life that I want to experience. I went salsa dancing, I learned Chess and I finished my recipe book of my favorite recipes but that was just the start.
I was always the person that said…someday…when I grow up. I will be that person that exercises and eats well and lives a charmed disciplined life. Well guess what? I am all grown up! I am slowly becoming, the person I had always thought I would be, but it takes a lot of work. And that is why I am here, because exercise is an important part of an adults life, it is an important part of my life. It is what grown ups do, because it is healthy and good and it makes your life better in so many ways.
Every time I would start exercising, I would say to myself - Wow I feel great! I sleep better, I handle stress better…exercise is good for the body – my body! But it is so easy to fall off the boat…all of us have done it…and it will be a challenge! I would be great for a month or two and then something would happen and I would stop exercising for a month or two.
A few days after that night, I started yoga and it has been great! I make better choices and try not to beat myself up when life happens. A few months later I joined MDB and here I am!
