I grew up playing sports, from soccer to basketball and everything in between. Through high school and college I spent most of my time playing basketball which kept me fit into my twenty something’s. Then as the thirty something’s came around, life happened. Work, family, and responsibility take its time and at 35 I had put on 20+ pounds, weighed 205 and had a bmi of who knows what. I was working out when I could and everyone knows that is irregular at best but finally realized I needed to do something.
At this point a new gym opened close to work and I decided to get back in shape. Fast forward 2.5 years and that is where my pre P90X photo begins. I had gotten back into what I thought was good shape (190 and 15%body fat) which was a long way from total fitness I know have, but had reached a plateau for sometime. My weight had dropped; my strength had increased but had to work very hard just to maintain any results. I had started competing again in cycling and running, but I was working out several hours a day, 5-6 times a week, with only little to no gains.
Well after only 30 days into P90X and the whole muscle confusion along with good nutrition (80% of how you look is what you eat), I just finished my first triathlon and was 42nd out of 500+ and I have lost 2% body fat. Fast forward another 60 days and you can see the results in my photo. I am down to 180 pounds and 10% body fat (it is so much easier to run now) and ready to train for the Ironman 70.3 triathlon and in the best shape of my life. I have lost over 25 lbs and 6+% body fat that I did not think I had to lose. And while the workouts were efficient and fun, the nutritional plan brought it all together. Like I mentioned earlier, the biggest part of how you look is in what you eat and the P90X nutrition plan makes it easy. It has great recipes and tells you exactly what is good to eat (i.e. the system). One of the best things in the P90X nutritional guide is the supplemental recovery drink. It allowed me to train harder and recover faster and most important is that it was umm umm delicious. For the next 12 weeks my life was sleep-eat-swim-bike-run-sleep-eat….you get the point.
Fast forward again to Oct 2008 and I just reached my goal. I finished 70.3 miles in 6 hours and my thoughts were very clear. I was thankful P90X got me started and I wished I had mixed in more P90X, as I know I would have been even stronger if I had. My other thought, seeing over 2000 people compete, was that they all had one thing in common. They decided what they wanted to do, they committed to put in the work and now they are enjoying success. I took off a full week and did nothing. Rest is good! Now I am back at P90X+, having fun and taking it to another level. You don’t need the gym, I have not been in 7 months and most of the people there are not seeing result anyway. And I can tell you from my own experience it’s because the gym is inconsistent, but you start and finish everyday in the only gym you need, your home. So today decide to Bring it because your Success is in the System!
