There are many reasons I decided to finally pick up the remote control and push play. Besides the obvious, the health concerns, not having any energy, and just hating the site of a picture of me, there are three things that stand in my mind that have helped me to push play. First, I am the oldest sister of five girls. And innocently, I am always introduced as the BIG sister. Well it would not be a big deal, if I weren't literally the BIG sister. My four younger sisters either have naturally great working metobolisms or they work hard with exercise and watch what they eat. They are beautiful, thin, and I love them dearly, but I don't want to be the BIG sister anymore. Second reason to hit play is for my family. They deserve a Wife and Mom who takes care of herself too! Also, if I am not an example of living a healthier lifestyle, how can I expect them to have one either. Lastly, and initially the only reason I pushed play, was because of a bet with my 17 year old son. He struggles with school and doesn't much like the work involved, but loves to work out. I, on the otherhand, struggled with over eating and didn't much like exercise. So, I bet him that if I would work out six days a week, he would have to try very hard in school and do the necessary work to pass his classes. That was motivation enough for me. If I was making myself do something I didn't really want to do everyday, I could expect my son to do something he didn't really want to do! Even though he continues to struggle - my son is very proud of me and my success. And I showed him that you can really like something if you give it a chance. Hopefully someday, he will appreciate learning and love it too.
Now eleven months later I have gone from 190 pounds to 154 pounds. Woo Hoo!!! 36 Pounds!!! The biggest hurdle to actually starting was to start on SATURDAY - because Monday after Monday was just NEVER working out. So, I began on Saturday, March 1, 2008, and when Monday came I was committed to continuing and it did not matter what my schedule was. I was going to complete the ninety days of Power 90 and I was going to show my son I can do this. Faithful to the workout six days a week, counting calories, and recording everything in a journal, ninety days later on June 1, I had lost 22 pounds and 18 inches. Through the summer, I continued to exercise with the Power 90 workout 3-4 times a week and sort of watched what I ate (few beers, few desserts) but luckily on September 21 when I measured to begin the P90X workout, I still had managed to lose 10 more pounds and 6 inches. Today it is January 21, I have completed a round of P90X, I feel great and strong. But I didn't lose anymore weight. I am sure the many Holiday Parties and Goodies that were around in an abundance did not help. But, hey - I didn't gain anything either. I can be proud of that. So beginning February 1, I am starting another round of P90X. This time I am going to do the Lean program and stick better to the diet. It is all GREAT and GOOD. I Love this Journey. Thanks Tony, Thanks BeachBody! Though initially I won the bet with my son, I am winning so much more!!! Still and always will be, a work in progress.
