FeelingGreat
I love Utah! What a great place to raise a family. Married for 21 years to a wonderful woman. I'm a father of 6 children. (4 teens!) I love to be outdoors when it's not 105 degrees. I like to be active - hiking and camping. I love to be taking photographs - mostly of the kids, but also anything interesting or beautiful. I've been active most of my life playing sports. These

A series of events lead up to me finding out about MDB and using the Power 90 workout. In May 2007, on a business trip, I got talking to the guy next to me on a plane and the conversation turned to weight loss. He told me he had success with the South Beach diet. He said it was great because he wasn't hungry while dieting. I was feeling fat, weighing in at 205 pounds - 40 pounds more than what I weighed in high school as a trained athlete and the most I had ever weighed. I had just increased my waist size (again) and bought my first pair of size 38 pants. About the same time, my wife was diagnosed with diabetes and was told by her doctor that she would need to go on diabetic medicine. Her response was "I'll be damned if I'm going to take that medication, which is the slow road to death" Instead she decided she was ready to change her lifestyle as well. Together, we started South Beach on May 15, 2007. It worked. I weighed 180 pounds on July 15, 2007. A few weeks before that, a friend and MDB coach started telling me about the good results he was getting from his workouts and suggested I try out power 90. I started Power 90 about July 1st when I still weighed 185. I was thinner, due to the weight loss, but not strong, so I knew I needed to do a weight training program to supplement my new eating program. The program is fun and I like that a lot of working out is done in a short time. I don't want to spend 2 hours a day working out, so the 40 minute workout is just right. I hope to gain back some of the weight - in muscle!

I finished P90 round 1 on 10/18/07 and I like the results. I was hoping my measurements would have changed more than they did. I feel stronger and my recovery after strenuous exercise is much quicker. My weight has been zigzagging between 177-182 for 2 months! I lose a few pounds during the week and then gain it back on the weekend by "giving myself a reward" for all my hard work. So, for the next 90 days, my goal is to eat better on the weekends, so I don't spoil the accomplishments of the week. I am also making some adjustments to my routine. Often during round 1, I still didn't feel recovered from the resistance workout of 2 days before. Maybe I was training too hard? This time around, I am going to try alternating the bands and dumbbells and see if that helps with recovery.

I didn't change over to the level 3-4 workout until day 60, so I've only done that workout for 30 days. For round 2, I'll be doing level 3-4 for the full 90 days. Hopefully, the higher intensity will yield better results.

If I just stick with the program, eventually I'll get where I want to be. I need to remember that exercise and fitness is a lifetime pursuit, not just a 90 day pursuit and I'm "fixed".

Logging into wowy and reading bios of others has helped motivate me. I have seen the awesome results of others and it helps me believe that I can do it too.

That little bit of flab left around my lower belly is a problem area for me. But, I'll keeping doing abripper 200 and I know it will work. You can't feel that much pain in the abs and not be doing something good!

Update: 11/6/07 - A couple of good things recently to report. I gave blood on 10/30/07 and my blood pressure was down from 108/xx to 98/xx since 2 months ago! Also the prep guy took my resting heart rate twice - because the first time it was 50 beats per minute and he thought he did it wrong! The second time it was 54 (probably due to my excitement from the first report!)

He asked me if my resting heart rate is usually that low. I was thinking "not since high school." I stated above that I wanted better results strength-wise after 90 days. I could not be more pleased with what is happening in the cardio department. The cardio numbers are exciting! Good things are happening on the inside.

I've also noticed that even though I'm breathing heavy during the cardio, my heart rate returns to normal in 2 or 3 minutes. My recovery is much faster than before.

Another topic: Yesterday, my wife and I went to get flu shots. As the nurse was getting ready to inject me, she said, "I need you to relax your shoulder muscle". My shoulder muscle was already relaxed! I was thinking "thanks for the compliment." Somebody thinks my shoulders are getting toned up - cool. That's so good for motivation.

Update: 1/22/08 - I finished round 2 of P90 and did my first P90X workout today. I'm glad to be starting something new. The P90 level 3-4 cardio and resistance was getting boring and I could tell my motivation was lagging. But I'm fired up again about taking the workouts to the next level. Tony is very inspirational for me!
