I grew up taking gymnastics, dance, cheering... I was always in shape--not petite, but relatively stocky and muscular. In '92 i went to college and gained the dreaded "Freshman 15" and at 5'4", weighed 165. I trimmed down to 132 (VERY small for me) the unhealthy way--starving myself and "nourishing" my body through a combination of diet shakes and diet pills (both prescribed by a quack, and over-the-counter). I continued down this body-wrecking path until i became pregnant with my first child in 2001. While pregnant, I was probably the healthiest i had been in years--knowing i had to feed myself in order to have a healthy baby. I gained 19 lbs with that pregnancy, and afterwards, lost 32lbs (through healthy eating and breastfeeding the baby). I became pregnant again in 2003. With that pregnancy, i gained 19lbs (seems to be the norm for me), and lost 36--the same way as before. Soon after that, I began a healthy workout program, and began eating right, with the help of a nutritionist (both were offered through my job). However, in 2005, I changed jobs, and lost those benefits. Over the next 4 years, I gained nearly 30 pounds, again topping out at around 165. I felt like crap. Not only did i feel unhealthy, but i felt unattractive and frumpy. I had heard of people doing P90X, and decided to try it out for myself. I was really hesitant--I mean, i'm not one to purchase workouts from infomercials. However, I did my homework. I went through the entire Beachbody site--read what people had to say, viewed the success stories, and was convinced that I could do it. So, i ordered it. Those first two weeks were KILLER. But it pushed me. I couldn't stand that it was so hard for me--it drove me to push harder. After only 3 weeks, i saw results, and i knew i was hooked.
I started P90x in October of '09. Finished the first 90 days to Xtreme results! Did another 30 days of P90x, then switched to Insanity. That program is a total fat blaster. LOVE IT! I now do a combo of P90X and Insanity--usually 4 days of Insanity, and 2 days of P90X (arms/shoulders and legs). These programs also inspired me to become a certified personal trainer, which i am loving!

UPDATE: In November of 2012 (the day before Thanksgiving), I was diagnosed with breast cancer. On 12/28/12, I had a double masectomy, and am now going through the course of rebuilding my breasts. Fun stuff--NOT. :) Through all of this, i'm remaining positive--I am NOT a "survivor" or a "pink ribbon wearer"--I'm just a bad ass who didn't let cancer get the best of me. :D On 3/1/13, I will undergo surgery to get these awful tissue expanders taken out of my chest, and have implants put in. From then on, I have to take it slow...but i'm strong, and i'll get back to the awesome shape I was in! JOIN ME ON MY JOURNEY!!
