My Photos | HeismanGirl Alden, NY Hi, my name is Natalie; I’m 30-something years old, 5’3” and by most standards I am overweight. I carry it well they say.... All my life I have always been little. All my life I have always been little. Short & skinny that is until I got into my late 20’s & headedin the 30’s where I blew up to almost 165 lbs! That is a lot of weight for a little girl like me. I took off 20+ lbs by changing my diet (mostly stopped drinking ice tea and regular pop) and I have kept off that weight for the past 6-7 years. Overall I have felt good, have been moderately active and really had no desire for a fitness plan. Well.... once I hit my 30’s things started to change. I may feel young mentally and may look young physically but my body was starting to say “I’m not as young as I used to be”. Where did my flexibility go? I am too young; I am not ready to start having these aches and pains. Like most women we are always doing things for others, putting our family’s needs before ours, taking care of everyone but ourselves and making a million excuses as to why we don’t have time for us. I knew that had to change but change is hard and in order to change you need motivation.... where to get motivation?? I tried the gym.... boring. I would DVR exercise shows that played during the day.... boring. I tried jogging, realized my shins would start hurting within minutes and I got so frustrated I just stopped. I’ll admit it, I lacked motivation. I figured I eat good, overall I am healthy; as long as I ‘maintain’ I would be fine. But I know for women to maintain their body weight they need to exercise one hour a day. Just to maintain! I know we lose muscle mass as we get older. I know I needed strong muscles to protect my bones as I get older as osteoporosis runs in my family. I knew all these things yet it seemed like either I couldn’t find something I enjoyed for a long period of time or nothing really ‘worked’ or I was just lazy. Well I didn’t want to be called lazy! So my better half of 8 years (JETTMASTER) comes home one day from work and starts talking about this new exercise program called P90X. One of the rookies at his firehouse brought it in and was challenging all the guys to do it. He started doing the DVD’s at work, borrowing them to do at home and wouldn’t shut up about this program or some guy named Tony and Beach Body. I was like “I don’t like exercise videos”. Well here comes my motivation.... how can I sit on the couch and watch this man, who has never had a fitness regimen - who would at the most jog a little or throw some weights around once in a while, do these crazy workouts, sweat like a dog and then listen to him rant & rave about how great he feels afterwards and how he has so much energy?? He was LOVING it!! I watched and listened to this for about 2 months and I started to notice the changes in him; he did have more energy, his waist was getting smaller while his chest was getting bigger, his arms were becoming more defined.... he looked better and I know he felt better than he ever has before. OK - how could I not give this P90X thing a try?!?! So I’m trying it & I’m liking it. It’s a slow process for me - it still takes me time to get motivated and I find myself making excuses. But those are my challenges to overcome. The Beachbody products are amazing.... Tony is great & I think he is hilarious!! I love the Heisman’s in the Plyo & Cardio DVD’s. I love Shoulders & Arms. I love how I am starting to get muscles I never had before (with very little weight). I am starting ChaLEAN Extreme since I love the weight lifting aspects of P90X. I have seen the results first hand - right in my own living room. P90X is hard, it kicks my butt. The first DVD I ever tried was Plyometrics! Really?!?!? And the best thing my better half ever said to me was afterwards, after Plyo was over -he said “I’m proud of you, you did better than I did my first time.” That felt good. So I just keep pressing play - doin’ my best while forgetting the rest!
