First off, thank you for visiting my 'Coach Joshua' page. If you are interested in getting into better shape for a sport, your own well-being, or, in my case, looking to find a starting point for the recovery of a chronic back injury, I am here to help you! As your coach, I am here to help with weekly/ bi-weekly emails that feature fitness and diet tips.
My name is Joshua Robertson and I am an Information Technology Professional at a world wide manufacturing company. I have always been fairly athletic and have been involved in everything from long distance running, to wrestling, to power lifting, to martial arts. These
have all had a positive influence on me and have helped mold my perspective of health and exercise.
But, as I mentioned above, I injured my back years ago while I was shrugging too much weight, tearing a levator scapula muscle between my shoulder blade and spine. Also, it didn't help that I was rear-ended the very next day, giving me additional whiplash. This injury has affected me everyday since it happened. I tried everything from acupuncture, to electro-stimulus therapy, to chiropracty. An additional challenge is that I sit most of the day working on a computer at my job. For you fellow office workers who have back, neck, and shoulder issues, you know exactly what I mean. Stiffness sets in and trying to stretch it out is not always possible.
Because of this injury, I have come to accept that certain training methods, like heavy power lifting are not the right exercises for me.
Then, one day about 3 months ago, my friend and now beachbody coach Jim Rumps started talking to me about P90X and how it had helped heal his torn acl and has gotten him in the best shape of his life. He loaned me the P90X 'Chest and Back' dvd. Long story short, I have performed this workout 14 times, twice a week for the last seven weeks. This mix of warm up stretches, exercises, and cool down stretches has finally given me the relief from my back pain that I have been looking for for 8 years and I am getting stronger and more fit.
So, I have taken the next step and ordered the entire P90X program. I am so exited to see how I feel after 90 days with the whole program to benefit from.
