Hey, there! My name's Mike, and I'm a Beachbody coach. I started with Beachbody in June 2008, when my wife (CoachJan here a Team Beachbody) and I began the Power 90 program. Why did I start? Because my doctor told me that he had never seen numbers for cholesterol and triglycerides so high (301 and 1150, respectively) in a living person. That was my wakeup call and my first Hey, there! Because my doctor told me that he had never seen numbers for cholesterol and triglycerides so high (301 and 1150, respectively) in a living person. That was my wakeup call and my first "why," my driving motivation for getting my body healthy. We dove into Power 90 with determination, got rid of all the junk food in our house and started eating clean, and at the end of Power 90, I was well on the way to shedding 25 pounds, and my cholesterol had dropped to 178 and my triglycerides to 109 - with no medication!
After Power 90, we did Power 90 Master, ChaLEAN Extreme, Rockin' Body, TurboJam (that was mostly my wife, but I checked it out, too - I love Chalene Johnson!), then P90X and Insanity. By November 2009, we took on our largest fitness challenge by running the San Antonio Rock & Roll half marathon and had an absolute blast. This, from a guy who had always hated running! But it just proves that you CAN change if you want to: it just takes determination and some hard work.
Beyond that, I write and publish novels on the side, starting with the "In Her Name" series. We also try to get outdoors as much as possible, running, bike riding, and hitting the water in our kayak.

My transformation was as much or more an internal one as it was external. You see, shortly before my wife and I started our first Beachbody program - Power 90 - I was hit with a real dose of reality in the form of a routine cholesterol test. My cholesterol levels had always been on the high side, but this was almost off the charts: my overall cholesterol was over 300 (200 is the high end of normal), and my triglycerides - which are normally supposed to be no higher than 150 - were nearly at 1200. My doctor had never seen levels that high (at least in someone who was alive to talk about it), and that finally scared me into action.
Coincidentally, I saw the P90X infomercial on TV. After discussing it with my wife and doing some research on the Beachbody site, we decided to try the original Power 90, as P90X would have been way beyond our ability at that point. We didn't want to fail or get frustrated.
So we started working out with Tony in Power 90, and also did a clean sweep of our kitchen and pantry: out went all the junk food, in came clean and lean organic food. My doctor wanted to give me medication to control the cholesterol, but I've become increasingly cautious about what I take into my body, and wanted to see what changes I could bring about by myself.
After about six months, we had finished Power 90 and the Power 90 Master series. On the "outside," I had shed a lot of extra fat and took my waist size from a very tight 36 (in truth, I should probably have been wearing 38's) to a loose 33. And it was time for another blood test.
I was as shocked this time as I was the first time - so was my doctor - but in a completely different way. My cholesterol had dropped below 180, well within the normal range, and my outrageously high triglyceride levels had dropped down to just over 100...with no medication whatsoever.
Since then, we've moved on to ChaLEAN Extreme, and have P90X in our sights for later this year. I no longer feel like a heart attack waiting to happen, and I look much better. For the first time since college I can see my abs and am really building size and definition in my muscles. I've got more energy and more confidence.
This experience also taught me that I can do whatever I set my mind to: with the help of my wife and the Beachbody team, I made an amazing transformation in my life. And if I can do it, anyone can!
