Virginia Beach, VA I was an extremely weight-conscious person prior to getting married at 31 years old, because being in the military made that a priority. Towards the end of the bad marriage (approximately 13 years), stress, worry, and no sleep or exercise began to show their mark on my body as I fought desperately to remove my 3 children and I from an emotionally abusive situation. In addition to that, I had a Breast Cancer scare, which is hereditary in my family. The final straw for me was when I awoke during surgery and they informed me that they could not offer any more anethesia due to my weight. After 2 years of stabilizing my downsized family, I woke up to find that I was single again and I didn't recognize whose body I was in - I was morbidly obese! Stress, sparodic eating habits, no exercise, and inadequate sleep had me up to 327 pounds. While truly blessed because of no other health issues, being 43 meant that those problems were right around the corner. I was scheduled for gastric bypass surgery, but feared the worst would happen and my children would have to live with the alcoholic that I almost killed myself to get them away from. So, I decided that it was time to do this the old fashioned way - the way I learned to do it in the Air Force. I am making progress steadily, and can't wait to show the body I remembered that was inside. My last checkup in June of 2008 showed no signs of Diabetes (not that I was predisposed), High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, or any other illnesses known to be associated with obesity. I am more healthy and physically fit than my physician! Now I am seeking to start my personal life over again, I feel much more confident of who I am, and what I know others are seeing when they look at me. Even though I am not where I want to be yet, I get the second look again, and it feels great.

The first year, I worked with a Dietician to get my eating habits under control. I had to eat more Carbohydrates at regular intervals of the day, along with fruits and vegetables. This helped with the first 10 pounds. In March of 2007, I got serious and purchased Turbo Jam with Chalene Johnson. This is when my real weight loss success really started counting. I have steadily made time in my schedule to exercise more on a regular basis. I have steadily dropped clothes sizes, but it is my goal to lose a totoal of 160 pounds as soon and as aggressively as I can. I reached a plateau in weight loss from December 2007 to June 2008. During that time, I continued to exercise and use supplements to assist me with meeting my goal. I didn't get too discouraged because the type of exercises I was doing was toning, and I my clothes were still getting baggy (I know, muscle is heavier). I lost the first 82 pounds with Turbo Jam. By the beginning of Fall 2008, I decided to try something different. I ordered Slim in 6 to tone and bring me into my final size destination. I've lost an additional 29 pounds since, and am still pressing PLAY. I also added speed walking (2 miles in less than 40 minutes) on the weekends to help my thighs melt faster and to clear my head. If my workload permits, I occasionally walk on the treadmill in the fitness room at work on my lunch time (30 minutes). I remain mentally driven and ready to finish my quest to lose an additional 70 lbs - having lost 91 to date (12/08). I have learned patience, thinking out of the box, and to strengthen my resolve when things get complicated. There is something to be said about good old fashioned determination.
