Hi! My name is Sheila. My story is probably fairly common. I've been a sahm nearly all the 20 years I've been married. We have 5 children. 18, 14, 11, 5 and 2. All healthy and surviving with parents!!! LOL....

During the past year we have gone through a major life altering occurence which has put a tremendous amount of stress on every family member. For my husband and me, the stress was largely exhibited through our gaining weight although we are basically healthy in our choices of food. Stress does strange things to the body we have found.

I have gained a lot of weight in my chest, middle and thighs. This has been extremely difficult for me to endure. I feel my every step is labored. I'm not overweight by the standards of those who love me....I just need to get out from under all the stress they say. I don't accept that.

I embarked on a journey at the beginning of 2008. I'll turn 40 this year. I want to be healthy and fit. I want to show our children who are still at home a different way of living. They are telling me as of late that I'm becoming more "granola" by the day with all my talk of "Kashi" and canning jars and organic gardening.

I say "ah, well, they will benefit as much if not more than I will since these will be lasting lessons they will take into a new family of their own one day." Right? Right!

So, here I am. Ready to put the good eating habits together with a physical health regimen. Diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid problems run through my family. I know I have to take care of myself now that I understand what could happen if I don't.

Hope to meet lots of people who are on a similar path to their life change.
