Professionally, I'm a Yale grad with a Master's Degree in Animal Behavior (emphasis: Marine Mammals) from SDSU's Cetacean Behavior Lab; after grad school, I ran nesting studies with sea turtles in South Florida before moving into more writing-oriented positions. My passions include ancient cultures and civilizations, international relations, nutrition, gardening, writing, and working out until I can barely stand. Now that I've attained my ACSM-cPT, I'm turning my sights on a certification with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I LOVE this stuff and can't get enough of it!

I began my first rotation of P90X on 1/15/05. I was not particularly overweight, so my goal was not weight loss, as much as an overall streamlining of the body. At that point, my son was about 9 months old, I was breastfeeding him quite a few times during the day, and I was looking for a way to accelerate getting back into shape. I really like working out, and that means working out HARD, and I was hoping that P90X was the program that would bring me to a new level of fitness.
I was not disappointed.
I should note, if I had the time, I'd spend all day at the gym. I love weight training for the sake of weight training. I love packing plates onto weight machines. I love the "limbs like jelly" feeling of a great workout because it signals beautiful physical changes. But in all the years that I've worked out at the gym, I've NEVER had results as awesome as I have with P90X and other BB programs. I honestly see no reason to ever set foot in a gym again. And that speaks VOLUMES coming from me!
P90X is the perfect program. It is so complete, so air tight, it covers all facets of fitness...and then shoots it to a stratospheric high! What totally rocks about this program is that it sets you up for living life to the fullest. And Tony is so much fun to work out with! He's a Motivator Extraordinaire, and always gets me to do ONE...MORE...REP, even when I think I'm done. Someday, I'd love to work out with him in person...perhaps a Fitness Camp is in the future for me?!
I'm not a lumberjack, mountainclimber, or contestant on one of those survivor reality shows. I'm a SAHM, with a fairly mundane existence...and now I can carry both of my children -- for a total weight of over 75 lbs -- up a flight of stairs, two stairs at a time (useful, when daddy's on a business trip, both kids are wanting attention AND are dead-tired because it's way past their bedtimes). Okay, I do it two stairs at a time only because I CAN. I love being this strong! What's even more motivating is that I got to this point without any fancy equipment, expensive personal trainers or hours spent at the gym. I didn't starve myself or have to eat a monotonous diet. Even with two young children to care for, I still found the time to get in my exercise.
After the success I had with P90X, I invested in PHH for those days that I didn't have a lot of time...and most recently got totally hooked on Turbo Jam! I love Chalene! Her attitude is awesome...she's the greatest! She's like a best buddy that you love working out with because she's so sweet and positive! Thanks, Chalene, for adding a special kick to my workouts!
And I look at it this way: for less than the cost of one year's gym membership, I have the world's most perfect and complete workout program FOREVER! And I don't have to waste time traveling to the gym or waiting for machines. If I need to stop for any reason (say, my toddler is destroying the house again), I can resume my workout once I have things under control. That's real freedom!
I turned 40 this March...and although I was cardiovascularly very fit in my 20s, I've never been this strong and flexible, too! I feel that I am in the greatest overall condition that I've ever been in, and that just blows me away. Beachbody, I LOVE YOU GUYS!
