I had three children within the span of five and a half years & am currently expecting my fourth bundle of joy in late summer 2012. :) My children are my number one priority, so naturally, I put them first (as most mothers - understandably - tend to do). However, putting them first means putting myself last and as a result, I really let myself go. I'll never forget when I met my brother for dinner and he didn't recognize me or the sadness in my father's eyes as he looked at the lifeless, overweight, and unhappy person I'd morphed into. I pretended all was well, but inside I knew it wasn't - I knew *I* wasn't.
Sure, I attempted to diet and exercise plenty of times, but I never pushed myself enough or put all I had into it. I think I feared failure. I went through all the motions but lacked passion and dedication.
I started avoiding being in pictures & seeing friends, & ultimately hit rock bottom shortly after my mother's death in 12/08, I reached the point in 6/09 where enough was enough. I hated the miserable, depressed, and grouchy person I'd *allowed* myself to become. I was determined to make myself healthy, fit & well.
I started P90X on September 7, 2009. I made the decision every single day to show up and push play for ME. I finally figured out that putting myself first for a change was the ultimate secret for my success. It didn't mean I loved my family any less - but it did mean I recognized the importance of valuing myself. I had to love myself in order to truly love and give my *best* self to others. I am transforming not only my body but also my mind through all of the amazing Beachbody programs that are available. I've completed a few rounds of P90X, a couple rounds of ChaLean Extreme, a round of Insanity and a round of Asylum. I mix in P90X One on One's to keep it fun & fresh too. (variety...is...the...spice...of ...life!)
I even went back to school to earn my Master's in Education (which is something I've always wanted) and got involved with theatre again...another HUGE passion of mine. :)
I've become a bit of a running nut too. I've competed in 7- 13.1's, a sprint-tri, many 5, 8 & 10k's, a Warrior Dash (so fun!) and aim to complete a 26.2 in the near future.
I've come a long way in the two years since I first pushed play. I'm down 5 sizes & 50 pounds. I'm healthier & more fit now than I've ever been my entire life. Feels empowering to be LIVING my life again instead of watching it pass me by. :)
