I was completely excited when my first DVD set arrived in the mail. I dropped 20 lbs. in two months and was in the best shape of my life. Life was great!
Then, in the summer of 2007, I suffered a debilitating hip Hi! I'm Jodie. I'm a military spouse currently living overseas in Germany. I've been involved with Beachbody since 2006 when I first saw an infomercial for Turbo Jam. I was completely excited when my first DVD set arrived in the mail. I dropped 20 lbs. in two months and was in the best shape of my life. Life was great!
Then, in the summer of 2007, I suffered a debilitating hip injury that changed everything. I was misdiagnosed for over three years with bursitis. I saw countless doctors, was given a myriad of treatments that didn't work, including corticosteroid injections and physical therapy. The pain did not go away and my activity level continued to drop off. I gained 40 lbs. in a very short period of time, was addicted to Vicodin and was drinking more alcohol than ever before to help numb the pain. I had developed lower back pain in addition to the original pain in my hip and things couldn't have been worse
I was severely depressed, grossly overweight and just plain miserable when we arrived in Germany in June 2009. Then, the scariest thing happened: I had an episode where I was having trouble breathing and was rushed to the emergency room. As it turns out, I wasn't having a heart attack (which would have been very devastating since I was only 39) but I had developed acid reflux disorder as a result of my extreme weight gain. My blood pressure was high, my cholesterol was high and my health had severely declined from just two years prior.
That's when I told my husband that I needed to take control of my life again. I had been at the mercy of doctors who just didn't seem to have my interest in mind when they were treating me and it was time to regain my health and my life. I eventually got the correct diagnosis of a gluteus medius tendon tear, but soon discovered that surgery is the only way to correct it and no one anywhere near me is qualified to do that particular procedure. I was told, "you just need to lose weight."
Beachbody saved my life. I returned to my beloved Turbo Jam videos and began my workouts all over again. It was painful in the beginning, but I took it slow. Eventually, I was able to do more with less pain. And I just kept pushing "play." Over and over I continued to redevelop the muscles in my body that had atrophied after so long. I felt stronger every day that I completed a workout in the WOWY gym. I kept going and eventually I began to feel more like my old self again.
I discovered that the stronger I made my body, the less pain I had in my hip. My back pain, by the way, is completely gone. I walk like a regular person again - I no longer have a limp. I have a lift in my step that had been gone for such a long time.
Now, I make sure to make time to keep my workouts in my schedule as many days a week as possible. I can workout up to six times per week most weeks! I really enjoy the way I feel when I get those workouts in. And now I've implemented Shakeology to complete my total fitness transformation. My next step is to add even more weights to my workout with Beachbody's latest programs. I'm enjoying the workouts and feeling good in my skin again.
Having Beachbody has literally pulled me from the edge and given me my life back. I will always love what Beachbody has helped me accomplish. And now I want to help others turn their lives around, too. If I can come back from the edge of self-destruction, anyone can do it. And you can too!
