I am a single mother of two girls, who sweeten my life every day. While I love being "mommy", it keeps me very busy with activities from basketball games to soccer games, piano practice, and choir practices, and a whole host of other activities. It's fun but it's certainly a juggle to manage that schedule and my own.

I am a full-time middle school teacher. Currently, I teach English and a mentor leadership program. In the past I've taught study skills and physical education as well. I like to mix it up a little. It keeps teaching interesting as well as challenging, which is pretty much what my schedule is like.
Getting in a workout is certainly a challenge and keeping a consistent plan of workout is even more so. But what I've found as far as working out is that-- just like I do in teaching--mixing it up a little, that is mixing up my workout plan, helps my body better respond in terms of strength and overall conditioning. Like most people, my body will plateau after a while and so I need to integrate something new or completely change what I do all together. But it’s always some kind of cardio and some weightlifting and resistance training.
I’ve been working out pretty regularly since my college days. My first role model was my mom who began weightlifting when I was in junior high school —something completely unheard of at that time. I remember hearing kids telling jokes all the time to each other like, “Your mama lifts weights”. When I’d hear that, I would say to myself, yeah, my mama does lift weights. I thought she was pretty cool for doing that.

Even though I’ve been working out regularly since college, my greatest transformation came when I was introduced to Turbo Jam by a teaching colleague. She would always rant and rave about this great workout. I finally got curious and decided to join her for a class. And to my utter surprise, I found it really was an amazing workout that combines music with choreographed kickboxing moves. It was a whole lot of fun and I felt challenged enough to return for another class and another class and another. Almost 10 years later, I’m still hooked! Why? Cuz there’s nothing like it on the planet! It’s always evolving and changing. And while I like to switch up my workout plan from time to time, as is recommended so that my body does not plateau and stop yielding results, I always—without fail—return to Turbo Jam.
Unfortunately, my hiatus from Turbo Jam has been much longer than planned. I let work demands, life stuff, and my daughters’ active schedules take the driver’s seat while my fitness regime took a back seat—waaaay in the back of the bus. But I’m back and using the summer as a jumpstart to a more consistent workout schedule. I know what I need to be successful— consistency and results. Turbo Jam will be my primary source of cardio and weightlifting and strength training will round out muscle development. I’m very excited about seeing my results. And you can watch me do just that!!
