I don't remember a time in my life when I wasn't "dieting and trying to lose weight." I began my first diet when I was 8 years old and have been up and down the scale for the last 35 years! During college I was bulimic, and abused diet pills, diuretics, and laxatives. I have been on almost every diet out there: pre-packaged commercial diet plans, low fat, low carb, high carb, soup/juice/fasting, OTC diet pills and "herbal" diet enhancers, prescription diet pills, etc, etc, etc... I learned so much conflicting information over the years I had no idea what was correct or incorrect. I had always been active, playing sports, aerobics, and weight training throughout my life. I knew the value of exercise and knew without it I couldn't maintain a healthy weight, let alone lose weight.
Well, last year(spring of 2010) I was looking at my 42nd birthday. I was completely inactive, weighed 240 pounds, and I was on anti-depressants. I was miserable. Additionally, I had watched 2 people close to me have heart attacks. Both of them were overweight, out of shape, and in their 40's! I knew I had to do something. It was my time to change! I would love to tell you that I changed my eating all by myself, but I did not. I was desperate and needed help. With the aid of my chiropractor and a dietician, I used a low calorie, low fat, low carb, high protein diet plan. I ordered 10 Minute Trainer and began using that 2-3 times per week. I also used Turbo Jam once or twice a week. In June of last year I began taking hip hop, jazz, and tap dance classes also. The weight began to fall off! By Thanksgiving I had lost 90 pounds and was wearing a size 6! Through counseling with the dietician I learned what and how to eat. I eliminated white sugar, white flour, junk food, and fast food from my diet. And I don't miss it! During this process I got off the anti-depressants, lowered the amount of thyroid medication I take, dropped my cholesterol by 60 points, and cut my triglycerides in half.
In February of this year I knew it was time to kick things up a notch. I replaced my jazz, tap, and hip hop classes with ballroom dance classes and I returned to karate after 10 years of not training. Unfortunately I also gained about 15 pounds back! Ugh! That had to change! I became reconnected with my Aunt Karen through Facebook during this time and she began talking to me about P90X. I had always wanted to try it, but thought I would never be in a place physically where I could do it. Well, I ordered it from her and brought it home where it sat in a box for a few months. Through her encouragement and the encouragement of others in her online group, I began the program! Now here I am! I love it!
This journey has changed my life, and not just physically! I am happier and healthier than I have ever been in my life! I love me! I am still going through this journey of health and fitness, but I will never go back to the unfit, unhealthy lifestyle I used to live! I am passionate about living a fit, healthy, and active life and I want to help others do it too, because it is worth it!! Beachbody is a solid, quality company that is about people and helping them be the best they can be! I love being a part of this amazing company! Live, Love, Laugh, and SWEAT!
