I’m a 37 yr old dad of 3 wonderful children, ages 9, 7, and 3. I’m married to my lovely wife Talara and we live in Huntsville, Texas where I work in school finance. Growing up I was never very athletic. I was in band my whole life (and loved it) but about the only athletic things I did were at church camp in the summer. There was a part of me that always wanted to do more with my health and body but I never committed myself long enough to achieving it. I did stay pretty thin, weighing about 150 in high school, and 155 when I got married at 24 yrs old. In college, I found out my cholesterol was 450, yes that’s right, 450. It of course runs in my family but I had to do something about it. I somewhat tried diet and exercise to bring it down because I was against taken medication. Nothing I did helped much so I gave in and started taking the medicine. For years I’ve been off again and on again with the medicine, while never getting my total cholesterol below 200.

About January 2007 I had reached a whooping 194 lbs. I finally decided enough was enough and started my own diet and exercise program. I focused on eating fewer calories, not caring what I ate, just less calories and exercising regularly at the gym. It worked and I lost the weight down to 170 lbs. and I was in better shape than I had been my whole life but I still was not getting very far and never felt as good as I thought I should. I know now (thank you Tony) that my diet plan I was using wasn’t the best thing for me and I was experiencing the plateau effect Tony talks about. I also kept getting injured which required me to start over and over again. Also during this time, my doctor increased my cholesterol to the maximum dosage and for once in my life my cholesterol was below 200.
Then, one night, it happened. In September 2008 I saw the P90X infomercial. I’ve always wanted to be in that kind of shape and everything Tony was saying made perfect sense. I loved the idea of having so many different routines and being able to get in the best shape of my life in the comfort of my own home. I wanted to feel better and have more energy to do more things and keep up with my children. I could actually see myself committing to this. In fact I knew I was so committed, that when I ordered, I also ordered the P90X+ DVD’s because I knew I would be using those after P90X. I find it interesting that with all the exercise that I had done prior to P90X that it had only prepared me to at least pass the fit test. So, on September 21, 2008 I began pushing play. I could hardly walk the first week but it has been getting a little better each week. Just because I said better doesn’t mean it’s easy. As Tony says, “Do your best and forget the rest”. That’s what I’ve been doing, and I’m going to stick with it no matter what. Some days I was really tired, but I decided I was not going to bed until I did my workout. I can’t wait for day 90. Let’s keep pushing play everybody!
