I spend a large portion of my days bringing intellectual stimulation to the minds of 13 and 14 year olds at a public middle school in Georgia. Yes, I'm the lady that makes them read! I know, it's horrifying, but somebody has to do it. In addition, I try to incorporate movement into my classes, as a way to stimulate their minds through the movement of their bodies, and as a way to stretch, destress, and move so that their minds don't stagnate as the body drifts into it's daily coma during a 70 minute block of English.
I'm married to an extraordinary man who makes me laugh every day, and have three of the best walking companions in our dogs, Louie, TC, and James, who are multi-cultural canine Americans.
I have always been a 'big-boned' girl...always feeling less of a person than my more svelte figured friends and classmates in school. This certainly took a toll of my own psyche and well-being, and it wasn't until I was staring 40 in the face that I finally started making some choices that were all about me. I pushed play with P90X and haven't looked back. Since finishing that first 'round' of P90X, I did it two more times, tackled P90X+, Insanity, Chalene Extreme, Turbo Fire, Insanity Asylum, Les Mills Pump and ran three half marathons! I finished up 2012 with another half marathon and started 2013 with my first full marathon!! It was the BEST run I've had to date. Successes, though, require new goals, so I've signed up for the Augusta Half Ironman in late September 2013. Cycling and swimming are two things VERY new to me...it should prove to be an interesting experience.
In addition, because of my new-found passion for fitness and well-being, I took another step and became an A.C.E. certified personal trainer and Turbo Kick instructor.

Being a 5'10" woman allows one to get away with a lot of bad habits. Being tall, I can carry more weight than the average person, and still pull it off. That, however, never meant that I was healthy, it just means I was really good at disguising what I looked like, and more importantly, how I felt.
My highest weight was 232 pounds, which was during the time that I was a professional ski instructor from 1994-1996. I'm sure it was the pastries and hot chocolate for breakfast, the fatty foods in the lodge at lunch, and the golden arch run prior to heading home that did me in. But, when people would say, "You're athletic," or, "You're just big boned," you start to believe that those descriptors are true. In fact, to put it simply, I was obese.
Over the past 10 years, I have committed myself more to moving more and eating less, and got comfortable in the 185-190 pound range, though I was not completely satisfied with the way I felt and looked. A new career as a middle school teacher in 2004 changed my lifestyle, and I saw the weight begin to rise again. I was unsure of what to do, until my own coach convinced me to look at the P90X program and kicked my butt daily to keep me on track.
I was intriguied, and purchased it that day. It's been an incredible challenge, but one that makes me feel empowered physically and mentally by the changes I'm experiencing, in my weight, my muscle tone, and in my self-esteem. I finished my first round on July 3, 2009, and jumped right back in with a 2nd round of doubles. I then brought it daily with a round of P90x+ alongside Tony, Tracy Morrow, and Mark Briggs which I loved dearly, and then really leaned out with a round of Insanity. I haven't let up all these years later, utilizing many Beachbody programs including ChaLean Extreme, Turbo Fire, Asylum, Les Mills Pump and good old fashioned running.
If you need some assistance creating goals, keeping motivated, or need a sounding board, perhaps I can help you push play every day.
