My name is Steve, and I'm from the Indianapolis, Indiana area. I'm a father of two wonderful kids and grandfather to one.

I'm a father of two wonderful kids and grandfather to one.
When in school, I was active in sports like baseball, wrestling, and golf. Like so many other people, I became less active in sports and fitness after settling down and starting a family. The weight slowly crept up on me and before I knew it, I had to hold my breath just to bend over and tie my shoes because my belly was so big! I was disgusted with myself for not taking care of my body for so many years.
Like many things in my life, I struggled with the idea of making the necessary changes to at least stop gaining weight. The idea of actually losing weight and getting some activity in my life sounded appealing, but for so long I wasn’t willing to make compromises in my lifestyle. Food was my friend, and I didn’t want to change that relationship. I thought life would be dull without my “buddy”. I thought, “How fun could life be if I can’t sit down and enjoy a pizza… a whole pizza?!?”
When I finally accepted that there was no miracle pill, diet or amount of wishing that would make me shed the weight, I started my fitness journey. I’m not exactly sure what my beginning weight was, but I know it was over 240 pounds. I was so disgusted with myself that I rarely stepped on the scales. The transformation that has occurred in my mind, body and spirit are nothing short of miraculous. I have finally embraced a healthy lifestyle and not only have stopped killing myself with food and other self-destructive behaviors, but have shed over 60 pounds! I have surpassed my wildest expectations in what I would be able to achieve over the past couple of years.
Personal achievements are nice, but what I find to be the most fulfilling is when I hear from a friend or co-worker that I inspired them to make changes in their life. It’s truly humbling to hear that! When this journey began for me in late 2004, I had no intention of being an inspiration to others. My motivation was simple – I simply was tired of the way I looked and felt. Today, I get motivation from setting goals and working to achieve them. I love to share my successes and struggles with others as it is a true reminder of from where I started and the progress that I have made.
Teaching and coaching others is probably the biggest reward that I have discovered in this whole process! I get a great deal of satisfaction from helping others set goals and then work to achieve them – this was the diamond that I had not expected to unearth when I began this quest. I’m physically, spiritually and emotionally a different person than I was before making these life changes.
These days my focus is on cycling. Both in ultra-distance stuff called Randonneuring as well as competitive racing where I'm pack fodder as a CAT 4. I hope to move up in class by the end of this season.

In December of 2004, I decided to make a change in my health and start exercising again. I dug out my trusty Kathy Smith workout tape and discovered I was without a step to use with the workout. I did some web searches, and came across the Beachbody site. I began reading the forums, and found that Kathy Smith was making a new workout called Project: YOU. I decided to update my workout of choice and preordered the DVD’s.
When the program arrived, I watched the DVD’s to familiarize myself with the exercises that I hoped to master, and read the literature that was part of the program. I learned that to get the best results, I would need to restructure my diet. This originally is NOT what I had in mind when I started this journey – I simply wanted a new workout. With the support of the people on the Beachbody forums, I decided to give the “fast track” diet a shot. I thought that I could do a “diet” for a couple of weeks.
As I continued with my workouts along with the changes in my eating, the results of my efforts began to show in how my clothes were fitting. I decided to follow a few of the suggestions in the eating plan, cleaned out the “garbage” from my cabinets, bought some Beachbody supplements and went grocery shopping!
I found a lot of support and motivation on the Beachbody forums as I shared my successes and struggles with other people doing the Project: YOU workout. It was a wonderful experience to have a relationship with other people that were walking the same path as I, and I participate in the forums frequently.
After completing Project: YOU, I did a six week rotation of Slim Series, and followed that up with Tony Horton’s Power 90, and then P90 X! I have most of the Beachbody workouts in my library, and with the help of the Beachbody Fitness Advisors, have developed a custom routine that’s right for me.
WOWY, the online gym has been a very important aspect of my workouts. I need a level of accountability and I get that extra bit of motivation to get out of bed and get moving when I know that a workout buddy that is looking for me!
Has Beachbody changed my life? Not without work from me! I have USED the tools provided by Beachbody to change my life and my body! I am in the best shape of my life, and have fitness goals that I am training for, like to run a marathon, and ride my bike up a mountain. None of this would have been possible a few years ago. Making these changes requires effort and commitment from me, but I'm having a LOT of fun and look forward to more! Each day I tell myself, "I can do this TODAY” If I can do this, I know that YOU CAN TOO!!
